The company is already executing their strategy to reduce costs. They are doing it with replacement workers but will take back the union at close to the LBFO. Not much is going to change. The company is not going to budge because the long-term strategy just does not favor more wires to consumers.
Much like those formally bright red shirts, you're are starting to fade away.
The company (and all other big tech companies) have bet on spectrum and that is where they are growing the speeds. Folks talk Google Fiber which is just a play to get their own backbone in place at the same time as good PR in the community and some subsides to build it out. We all know Google contracts all the actual install and maint work on that network - they will switch to spectrum as soon as the engineers get us there - and that is not far way.
Eventually, wireless spectrum kills fiber over the last mile to the house. That is 1 of Lowell's core principles and he must execute a strategy that positions for that reality in the next 5 to 10 years. In fact, Fios directly competes with the VZ strategic vision of growing wireless data revenue.
Nobody really cares about this business. It is a shell game for accountants until wireless matures (as does the customer base).
Forget VZ, the consumer has spoken. They do not want smelly techs and complex installs. They want Amazon Echo and Google OnHub+Home which replaces the ONT/router/STB/wired phone. Pull it out of the box, plug it into an electrical outlet and configure it with your smart phone or tablet.
Does anybody seriously not see how Amazon Echo replaces all the VZ equipement in the house within 5 years? They could put a 5G connection into that device and viola! no more wires anywhere today. All that is to be worked out is the payment plans on cell data - and guess what? Lowell has more interest in that than wireline.
You buzzards enjoy fighting over a picked over carcass. I personally would have coasted the out-of-gas car as far as it would take me but you slammed on the brakes, stranded yourselves. Good for you but I think VZ caught a different ride.
