You're right. It's a charity only for executives who receive bloated salaries and perks no matter how they perform. For the rest of us that run the company we work for what we earn so when profits roll in don't turn around and tell me to tighten my belt.
Working conditions, out of town assignments suck but if it's only a couple of times a year for 30 days most people can handle it, what pisses people of is the criers that get out of it for some stupid reason. If someone has a sick child or spouse, single parent we are ok with that person not going. The more senior guys go and never complain, its the junior guys that do all the crying. Ot, never seen a lack of volunteers for Ot, only time they force is when we have a job action and we all say no, this only hurts the guys that don't want to work. As far as working conditions give me a break, call your customer, close out when your done and move on. If your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.
The company is not going to invest into copper wireline, new equipment, ect. A lot of techs in copper only area's literaly don't have any work, we clean our trucks, do routines, try to stay busy. How can a company justify that? If we want jobs we have to work on the fiber/fios, where they are building it, lets go make some money to support our families.
It's not only a charity to the executives, it's also a play thing. You can go down the list of failures. I believe in their mind Fios is a failure, also HUM, go90, etc. They win no matter what happens.
Verizon is DEFINITELY a "Charity". I mean the company employs LowMac, Marnie, Mudge and Fran for obscene amounts of money. That can only be viewed as a charity.
If the point of unions is to have better wages and working conditions, why do I hear so many complaints about how terrible the working conditions are? Forced OT, assignments away from home, old eqiuipment, etc. Why has the Union not made these very basic things better?

This is the post of someone with their head on straight. The deals weall have (union or management) is best in the industry. If anyone doesnt believe that, some quick inquiries to the HR departments off Comcast, Brighthouse, Time Warner, etc will confirm it.

Unions have evolved... they are no longer the noble organizations fighting for better wages and working conditions. They are now parasites that latch onto a successful host and drain it. Without the host, they die. They don't see this as charity.... it's survival to them.
