Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

#VZSlowDown June 1-3

As an EWAer, my buddies and me in the garage have had it. No information for over a week, constant pressure to get through more and more jobs, missing family and graduations, births, and last days at school. Living in the west, I get 4 days off every 21 days, but it takes 2 days for travel there and back. This is not fair and has gone on far too long. Time for this to end.

So, on June 1 through 3, we plan to do a work slowdown in our garage. Maybe 1 job per day, if that. How? Simply by going through the PPE and safety steps in excruciating detail, taking our time in every job, not closing out the first dispatched job until 6:50 pm, taking advantage of the required cleaning, missing safety equipment, holes in gloves, 188s that don't work, etc, This is all stuff we were told to do at the NCC training but that garage managers and supervisors skipped actually doing in the field when we rode with them -- let's take advantage of the system!

The unions and Verizon executives have made little progress. They keep trying to appease management staff in EWAs with e-cards, 5 by 5 offers, and $10 Starbucks gift cards for completing jobs, meanwhile our families suffer our lack of presence and interaction. The only ones not putting pressure on the situation is folks in an EWA that have very little say but will bear the brunt of RIFs in the months after the strike ends, when the company tries to correct the losses in subscribers and the increased expenses. Let's force this from our side, the third leg in this stool - the management staff in an EWA.

Join me. Send an email to vzslowdown@mailinator.com which is an anonymous email account. Bob Mudge's team is paranoid and reads this web site (hi, Mary!) for rumors and to gauge union activity, so send emails from your personal account. Corporate email goes through a filter and is monitored closely right now.

Union folks, we may disagree on a lot of things, but we do agree this needs to end for all of us and our families. Please hashtag #vzslowdown to get the word out. We read your posts and web site, standuptoverizon. Again, this is June 1-3.

Bob it's not a slow down if you don't know what you're doing. If it's an easy fix then hey, even a non electrician can see a broken wire inside a switch receptacle , but can't go much further then that

If it's easy enough it gets fixed, if it's complicated I'll just take my nap and pass it along

This is Bob. Anyone involved in a work slowdown will be immediately terminated. Customers are our first priority. Talks will continue for the next few days, if not weeks. Thanks.

So easy to weed out the union posters posing as EWA. No EWAERS I've met have that attitude. I have been given a job to do and I do that job. I get assigned work, I complete that work, then I grab the next job and do that one. It's not hard work, sometimes challenging but not hard. I get to work on time, put in my 12 hrs, and work. That's my work ethic. I was not brought up to pout or slow roll anything. The clock moves faster when I'm working. When the union comes back, or(more likely)the contractors replace me ill go back to my desk job, which is also not hard, but challenging and a LOT more stressful. I will attack that job with the same work ethic. If/when my number is called and I get riffed, I'll go to my next job with the same work ethic. That's just the way it is. If you put forth effort you can feel good about a days work. If you try to hide out and watch the clock tick by it will drive you insane and you will never have pride in a days work.

The funny thing is that you guys don't even need an official slowdown. The replacements are incompetent enough that all jobs go as fast as molasses in Antarctica.

I am already on a slow down.. I get send to very tall buildings with complex basements (think tunnels) where its easy to get lost.. Once I am able to find the telecom room, I sit down and go to sleep. A few hours later I tell the customer its a cable issue and I am not from cable, heck im not even from here or trained to do this job... Then its lunch time.. Ive done this almost every day since flying in to this assignment.

Just like one guy here told the supervisor "Why was I on a job all day and then I JEP'd it? because I am accountant, not a tech" The look on the local supv face was priceless

weak. EWA'ers have 10x more integrity than to do something childish like the union would suggest. Get back to folding laundry.

Starbucks gift cards? All of our food is on our expense card. Pressure to get jobs done? We're averaging 3 jobs a day at our garage. Yeah they are on us to keep up productivity but in no way on us in a bad way. Everyone who has had a special event has gotten time of without issues.

Sorry union troll, we EWAs are actually enjoying our time here. I'm enjoying taking your job.

OP is NOT an EWA'er.... This is taken from the informal UNION handbook. This has been their SOP for decades. This is why the company wants to get rid of them.... Nice try union!!! This looks like just another of your desperate manipulation tactics. Good Bye....
