Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The situation and the end result.

After ten months of failed negotiations the union did exactly as the company was hoping they would do and walked out. The company made a lapsed best final offer which the union rejected. The company, now backed by labor, will not budge. The union can not possibly except the offer now or it's members would surely disown the union. The company has the union exactly where they want them, out on the street. No ISPs, no layoffs, no benefits, not even unemployment for most. The company is backfilling the unions Jobs with contractors that they can move wherever and whenever they like. by August this will all be over. And the union will not be coming back.

@FBY- That’s why the union is soooo desparate to unionize the wireless stores. They know that it’s over for wireline…. they’ve watched due units steadily decrease from landline. They need a new source of income. And…. Rest assured…. The union leadership would sell wireline members down the river in a heartbeat if they could start mining wireless members.

" In 20 years there will be no land lines OR telephone poles. "

Right. Because wireless will be powering itself, from the moon, ensuring that everyone's home and business maintains a Terrabit link.

The strikers forget something and it will destroy them. Their mistake: they forget their skill set! They work on land lines. They might as well repair 8 track tape players! Your skill set is out of date. You are lucky to get 7.5 hper cent. You want more?

You are about to have the land line

business sold out from under you. Then you end up working for a sub contractor for 20% less! You have already lost more than you can make up from any wage increase! In 20 years there will be no land lines OR telephone poles. What lunacy compels you to walk behind this loser Union, WITH your out of date jobs, over the cliff? The most pathetic sight of all? Seeing out of date wired line workers picketing a Verizon

Wireless store in Woodbridge, Va! Give

it up ladies and germs: the union is ruining your lives in an unreasonable and old fashioned act of destruction. W hen the union stipends are exhausted then perhaps you might see clearly again. For now you on a one way ride to Baltic Avenue and a job in an 8 track tape player repair store. Wise up and take the 7.5%. You aren't ever getting more for yesterday's skills!

5/20

The Secretary of Labor had nothing to do the weekend of 5/14-15, so he said let me call the Union Presidents and CEO down to Washington for a chat with a Mediator which the Union heads do not want.

What a coincidence.

"by August this will all be over. And the union will not be coming back."

I thought it was over on 05/20? Armageddon for CWA/IBEW? You know, the one that never happened.

Please come back with some fresh thoughts on the subject matter. Your post smells somewhat stale.

I agree with you. I think it will take a year. But every month that will pass they will slowly start to close the gaping wound as techs get up to speed and complete more installs. Will the company succeed? No clue. Will they bring back the union if this drags out? I seriously doubt it. They aren't going to invest all this money in training and then drop the ball. At some point, relatively soon, it will no longer make sense to continue negotiations.

The poor quality work being done by the replacements matter nothing to the company the stockholders and even most of the customers.

Your Right the Company did want the Union to walk, They put all their eggs in that Leesburg Va training facility basket. As of today it's been a total bust. You just can not replace a 40,000 20+ year experienced workforce that quickly. It's going to take years, not months to get to any kind of productivity level. And Wall Street watching and waiting.

All the while you will have 40,000 out of work angry Union members making sure it doesn't happen. Do you really think they'll just walk away? and let it be business as usual. Not a Chance.

Bad spelling and grammar but he's likely accurate with content. Sure would be nice to get an update from leadership. Starting to think we are screwed. Vz execs wouldn't be spending all this money if they were caving. This is no bluff.
