It's amazing how many people read these boards

Just saying, it's sad

It is sad. And there are rules. 1) share what you know and 2) do not try to help. Very cynical group which adds to sadness. Not a constructive site just share what you know hoping it is 51% accurate.

I echo the sentiments from my fellow DIRECTV colleague. This total lack of regard for people who have served the company well is shameful. I know that my own surplus will come by the end of the year at the latest. I'm actively looking in a very small market, but I'm looking. I will not stay with this company regardless.

I'm sad that now I feel as if our own DIRECTV family sold us out for a huge payday. We get no information from anyone other than vague references to the "new normal" and a "don't rock the boat" reprimand. I will run...RUN from this company given the first chance. AT&T is a business, and I know it's not personal, but that doesn't make it any less reprehensible how they have and continue to treat their loyal employees.

Having been with SBC beginning in 2004 I am all too familiar with the biannual or annual layoffs. I refused a forced relocation and have been much happier since. This company doesn't define who you are, they only want you to believe that

Sadly, the amount of people coming to this site for information is a very strong indictment of the total lack of communication and respect that AT&T senior management seems to have for the employees.

One would have hoped that the company held the employees in enough esteem to be more transparent with this process, and would have given us timely, relevant, and regular information regarding the decisions and the criteria used. Instead, all we got were a couple of sanitized and patronizing announcements and silence. It was as if the people in charge didn't think we were important, smart, or mature enough to deserve to know what was happening.

I came from DIRECTV, and was not one of those affected by the announcements yesterday, though many friends and colleagues were. However, the level of disregard and disrespect shown us by AT&T senior management makes me wonder how much longer I want to remain here. After all, why should I commit my effort and dedication to a company who treats the employees like chattel?

I read periodically too and surplused earlier in the year. I come to beat the drum of "it really is better on the other side"

I was surplussed a year ago. I found information on this blog helpful. I continue to read periodically now to help and support those who are now facing what I did a year ago.

The majority of the posts on this site are real, my friend. Some are written more eloquently than others, but the messages and responses show the worry and desperation a lot of the folks have.

It's not easy to have given most of your working life to a company and are now comfortable with your job, the company culture and are at an age where to start over elsewhere is really difficult. We are in a global downturn and the markets are in a tailspin.

Getting a job after 50 years of age in this economy is scary enough, especially when you have a mortgage, bills to pay, kids to feed and school.

For men, especially, being the "provider" for the family makes these trying times an extra burden. It's hard to get a good nights sleep for a long time now.
