Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

There is no deal and no talks of there being one.

The talk is how we are going to work over the holiday weekend. There is no mention of a deal. Directors arenot talking about it because they have no idea. Any one saying they heard from anyone inside they are making up a rumor.

EWA's are burned out to the maximum and are being flown across the country from their families to work in call centers. The company is paying for plane tickets, flights home for visits after several week increments, lunch and dinners, and rental cars. Management is telling the EWA's to prepare to be there well into July. Pressure the union to not only get you a good contract but to expedite your contract - they are trying to break you through your wallet. The company wants to get out of the wire side of the business and has no love for you. Your CEO has left the bargaining table to go talk to investors in Boston. Union people, pressure your leaders to get you a fair and SWIFT contract.

All the scab ewa's in my area drove their personal cars here, Ohio, Virginia, Maryland. Never heard of plane tickets being furnished for ewa work. Your car, .54 cents a mile reimbursement.

The EWAs from CA, TX, FL, IA, CO most certainly did not drive.

Sad to say, if the scab work force was so " on point" there's would be no talk of field folks coming back ...... At all! The crap I've seen , I would be embarrassed to be known with this work force. I admit I've got some sketchy union members . At least they can do the job . I

@OP: You are wrong and I'll leave it at that. June 1 is the day barring something unforseen.

In fact, if you knew what you were talking about you'd already know that the EWA'ers are getting two days off that holiday weekend.

True about canceling hotels - non-refundable plane tickets for vacation trips back home in July - not so easily canceled. But, if this is so true - and everybody seems to know this for a fact - please post the communication where this was all stated. Because, many management people AND picket line people know nothing about this June 1 date. Post a source - until then - it's speculation.

Hotel room reservations can be canceled within 24 hours with a full refund. You can reserve a room for the next six months, if you change your mind, or get sent back to your single wide trailer in a week it will cost VZ nothing extra...possibly one day at worst.

There is a deal and we're going back to work on Wednesday. I read it here and everything on this site is true.

I have to admit the scabs posting here are a little funny to me, they have been with Verizon maybe a month yet have no understanding of how the company has been renting hotel rooms for union people for years, whether or not there's a body in it means nothing to verizon, making 4 billion dollars a month, a few hundred hotel rooms wasted is basically nothing. June 1.

Seems to be the consensus. June 1 return. And oh by the way the customer service side needs to kiss the assside of the tech and line workers because the linemen are the only reason the union scum are going to return. Customer service side is totally replaceable but techs are not.

Those were the replacements that were contracted and trained just in case, they have to pay them no matter what. They might as well use them, nothing more.

1qqq - you may be right. I guess we'll see on June 2. I may be right - I may be wrong. All I know as I look around my garage - and the number of new EWAs and contractors added in the past 4 days - I'd say we are ramping UP not down or not status-quo.

Puh-lease on June 1. EWAs are being told to book hotels through July 1 - EWAs are also being told to plan July and August vacations and to coordinate those vacations with their EWA bosses so that schedules can be made to guarantee coverage.

"Watch, cynics, June 1 is going to be the absolute end."

You mean just like May 20th was before that?

Cynics say june1 . makes sense on a couple of levels. According to wsws.org June 1 unemployment benefits start for strikers in many states and the Union needs a deal done before union strikers can no longer be squeezed into submission with the paltry $300 strike pay, and 2. The company absolutely does not want to pay Holiday pay on 5-31 after paying out so much to gypsy replacements. 3. Obama wants this to end so he tout an amazingly small unemployment number 4. The union AND the company are losing money right now. Watch, cynics, June 1 is going to be the absolute end.
