Every single ATO Town Hall Q&A session I heard the same question: "Will we be able to avoid layoffs in IT this year?" And every single time the answer was CorpSpeak for "No." Take all the online learning you want, get a Nanodegree, pivot yourself silly.... You're still going to be laid off, because Randall is sending your job offshore.

I worked for AT&T as a programmer, too. I can do it all...SQL, OOP, webpages, you name it. I was laid off by AT&T. They don't want coders. The 2020 stuff is just an excuse to lay off as many Americans as possible.

Nope, that was my job 3 years ago... Application/production support, did all the code pushes and database changes... Our 4 employee team (handling a mission critical
Mobility app) is now being done by 32 Tech Mahindra contractors in India... Not sure how that drug deal is saving the company money... Look into project management... I got lucky and after my surplus forced job I found a position I love... Still not as technical as my old job but somehow I made it 3 steps above my surplused position. This was also management... Non management might be different.
The funny thing, they are going to lay off someone who has coded and quite well for the past 4 years. Volunteered to pursue that full time with my own company.
They will be wondering why my ideas were shot down and told to put it in the pipe so one of their mediocre programmers can kill my work.

Perhaps it’s cruel, or naive, to recommend that everyone, all 300K of us, learn to code when expensive training , which will not be provided, the thousands of hours required are just unavailable to most of us. Even with all that, there is no guarantee of becoming a great coder with a great job at the end of this process., yu must have the right mix of qualities to code.
I suppose I can support learning a tiny bit about programming just so you can recognize what code iunfortunately AT&T will be using this new initiative to get rid of people, the leadership have lost their way, the people I know don't care about the company, just ridiculous
Great lakes region. Have not heard of any stores being converted. However new hires are hired into "hiring circles", which means you can be put at any 1 of like 4 local cor stores and float between them. Cutting down on head count that way for new hires at least. Guess we will see if anything changes come next week.
Any RSC on this forum have any stores in your market been turned over to agents yet
