Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What is going on in Washington? Are they wasting our time?

Someone needs to make a move to v=move this forward. This is just a continuation of before the government got involved.

Typical union response. "Someone save us!" Looking for the government to help you out? Yeah, those politicians really get things done don't they. I can't even imagine living my life always looking for someone else to save me.

so why get the government involved? No need to do that.

It's also a beautiful stalling tactic, especially with the so-called "gag order" in place. Absolutely nothing could be going on the whole time, but no one is the wiser (and this continues to buy time to get the replacement workforce up to speed).

If this truly is the method being employed, tactically it is brilliant. Functionally though, we all may be in dire straits because of it.

What might be going on is as another poster suggested yesterday....namely that there is no actual contract negotiation going on in DC currently. It is simply the company arguing to get the government off it's back and to mind it's own business. All of the efforts and money being spent on the "temporary" workforce would seem to support this viewpoint.
