It's probably a good idea to change over to Comcast or Cablevision now, this way you can point it out to them when you interview for your new tech job with them.

Union members switching service won't make a dent in VZ's profits. New installs may be down but as an EWA in a consumer call center, I can confirm that we are renewing lots of Double and Triple Plays every day and upselling customers to Quantum TV on a regular basis. Customers tell me that they despise Comcast and Time Warner and refuse to switch and will stay with VZ no matter what. Many customers are not aware of the strike at all and say that the EWA reps provide excellent customer service.
Smart move and thanks for doing Loewll's bidding. When the union finally accepts the offer with all the give backs, there will be less jobs needed for the union membership. So the next step will be a layoff and union people shown the door, just like Vz has planned. Now the union will have the same benefits as management, they get a RIF and union gets a layoff. The only good thing with a RIF is the severance package, the layoff gets unemployment day one.
@rri .... I often vote with my wallet and am a firm believer in doing so. However, I don't throw my dinner plate away if I am unhappy with the meal.
This is not about the money VZ is spending as they obviously planned and expected to spend this money. This is about the need to reduce head count in the wireline division. What the company makes overall has zero to do with the needs of wireline.
If the Union really cared about the craft member, they would permit VZ to offer a 3 year or 4 year ISP/EISP to its members. VZ would probably get 5 or 6 thousand members to go next month.
Problem is the Union is a business and they do not want to see the employee leave the company as that affects the Unions bottom line also.
Simple math.
I believe it shows people can vote with our wallet, just like verizon spending billions to break the union. They could have just extended the contract for less $$ and just kept offering early retirements. The Northeast where the striking workers are is a huge market and I believe there will be a long lasting impact.
Irony indeed. When it is probably a part of what the company wants. The fewer customers the fewer employees; just more bargaining points for McAdams and team.
I do love the irony of a workforce that is fighting to keep jobs local and then trying to get customers to stop buying services from said company.
