Wireless was able to grow through groups like PrimeCo and Airtouch, and they were run well without any need for unionizing.
We need less NYNEX and more PrimeCo, and that's what Leadership is giving us.

Uh, no. He actually died last year.

Phew, I'm glad the union is here to decide how much money is acceptable to make and how much is just greed. I'm glad Ivan made an acceptable salary to the union.
"So Ivan didn't make too much money as CEO?"
Seidenberg made a ton of money, not as much as McAdam, though.
He was a lot smarter when it came to dealing his union workforce. His approach would've ended up in union disappearing from the company by 2025 or sooner, on its own. The current CEO wants the world and he wants it now, and that is going to end up costing him one way or another...
anyone remember the Tele-TV debacle ? I feel VZW is about to make the same mistake trying to develop/own content through Yahoo purchase.
Uhh Bill Ferguson is alive and living in Westnchester NY - a real class act and good human being.
So Ivan didn't make too much money as CEO?
That was Ferguson f---wit
Whether it was Bill (RIP, they don't make leaders like you anymore) or Ivan, they had to fight with the Unions while guys like Lowell and Denny did not. Again, less NYNEX and more PrimeCo. PrimeCo was the most successful of the 4 carriers that came together to form VZW, and if that wasn't the case, we would've seen leadership from GTE Mobility, Bell Atlantic Mobility, or Airtouch end up as CEO. PrimeCo's success in Texas and Florida is what was used as the roadmap for VZW's success nationwide.
Hey, it was me who led forced that strike. I'm dead now but I'm talking to you from the afterlife.
This is what we said back then:
"During the strike by operators, installers, maintenance and clerical workers and other personnel, there have been more than 200 reports of vandalism, and local telephone service in some areas has been disrupted by vandalism. "
"Nevertheless, Nynex says it can hold out for many more months before the strike begins to have a financially devastating effect on it. "
Me and my corporate buddies said all this back then and we're saying it again now. The common denominator is that in both situations, 1989 and 2016, we lose big!
"If Ivan and NYNEX/Bell Atlantic was so much better back in the day, why'd you stay out on strike for so long in '89?"
It's up to the company to try and shove its way down worker's throats, and up to the union to fight back. That's why there hasn't been a long strike from 1989 through now.
Seidenberg also tried that mass layoff of 2002 which had exploded right back in the company's face seven months later. He was not vaccinated against making counterproductive moves. No one is.
With that being said, he undoubtedly had a vision - whether one agreed with it is a whole another matter - and had worked his way through the ranks, none of which can be said for McAdam.
Taco Bell treats it employees better at this point, managers and the one who actually do the money making work.
I didn't become CEO of NYNEX until 1994 which was 5 years after the infamous 1989 strike. Do you miss me yet?
