Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Does anybody really know when Doomsday is? LBFO date came & went. What's the date, cross or lose?

"June 12th Verizon can declare an impasse and hire new employees. "

BS. Not the way it goes, not is the "impasse" correct term for what the company needs to do in order to hire permanent replacements. Not to mention that 06/12 is just the day pulled out of the hat, with no connection to reality whatsoever.

It's fine if you're paid to spread FUD, but at least do some basic research in order for your posts to sound somewhat serious.

Lol...you guys are funny. In 2012 once the company and union got into mediation it took about 6 weeks to hammer out a deal. Now that they are,in mediation it's only been 1 week. Are things moving quicker then in 2012 ?...yes. So expect mediation to take a couple of weeks however.

EWAs start heading home in June as replacement workers start in larger and larger numbers.

It takes at least a few weeks for hiring and training. Jobs that require special licensure or training may take longer, and thus the hiring process would start even earlier.

EWAs should be largely gone by the 1st of July...

So, "Doomsday", as you call it, would probably be around the end of the first week or so in June, since after that date they'll have enough or nearly enough new hires in the training pipeline to fill the vacancies.

This is all based on publicly available information. Nothing secret, though it'll certainly shock many if or when it comes to pass.

Doomsday came and went and is over. The union is gone. Hasta la vista baby.

May 20th did exactly what was intended. Union refused mediation previously out of fear of being screwed. May 20th forced them to cry to congress and now they are exactly where they did not want to be...in mediation. One of my favorite movie lines "this ain't checkers it's chess". The company appears to be far better at chess.

May 20th was a scare you date ripped right out of the pages of a book titled: How to beat Unions in a negotiation, when you have Billions in profit, and have no justification to take form that employee.

There are no dates especially with DOL getting involved. Just sit back and wait to hear something official.

Do not really know.

Has VZ removed certain portions of the LBAF offer?

Do to the fact, no one is saying anything, no one knows.

Everything is just speculation at best.

June 12th Verizon can declare an impasse and hire new employees. The longer this strike goes on the worse it is for the union workers on strike.

IMHO, there was not anything at all that was going to happen on May 20. So for those that thought that something was going to happen, your expectations were misplaced. This is a very well orchestrated plan that the company is undertaking. There will come a day in the future when the company will say GOOD BYE UNION, and when they do say that, they will also say we did this and that i.e we gave you 30 days to accept out LBFO, etc..... Then it will be too late for the union.... My guess is that the company will win in the end. Even if the Union is completely removed, the union will still claim a victory for the middle class. I would like to see some real stats on how the average union worker is doing 12 months after they lose their job.... Will they ever admit how good they had it????

I think what voe is saying is that uncertainty is the major weapon being employed right now.

IMO, there will not be a one day specific doomsday per se....just a slow progression towards contracted workers. At what point does that workforce negate the need for the union guys/gals to come back? Of course, we have no idea about when that might be (but you can bet the company does), so if there is a doomsday, that will be it. But, none of us will actually know when that day came and went :-(
