Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon will hire

Hey union Verizon is almost at the point where they can start hiring you might be angry but how angry will you be without a job. besides with taxes and union dues you think your paycheck will be bigger what will happen is the union will raise dues to cover what was paid to you if something was paid to you. So this who has a bigger dick fest needs to end.

Progress being made in negotiations. Verizon will hire replacement workers. Temporary workers. They'll receive some training and will be sent home by mid June. Can't stop thinking about the Shamwow when I read Shammo.

why would VZ agree to stop hiring replacement works, unless the union comes back?

The mark does not seem to care about the strike.

VZ is a losing a few, but far from hemorrhaging account.

Both sides seem to stuck in the mud at this point.

As opposed to all the insults, try to stick to the real issues. Job security.

I would propose the following.

  1. Pay 7.5 over 3 years is ok.

  2. Pension frozen at 30 years, + 401K matching is fine

  3. The increase in medical is a fact of line, as rates go up at 20%+ per year (VZ Cost is going up more).

  4. For the big issue.

VZ need the ability to move people around on a perm basis. Help pay the for the move.

For shorter distances (Less then 1 hour drive), the members will be at the new location for at least 30 days. No new call centers outside the US.

Union buds what do you think?

(Not that BOD will accept this)

"Contractors and former Frontier workers are already lined up to work with them on the job. "

Time Warner, Brighthouse, Cox, Comcast, former Military, etc etc.....guys and gals from all these companies are coming out of the woodwork as replacements. They have been replacing many of the (in some cases admittedly) clueless EWAs, and as everyone has noted, will continue to do so in increasing numbers in the forthcoming weeks. The more time the union gives the company, the easier the companies plan becomes to implement and the more difficult to reverse. I just don't understand why the union, as part of their negotiations, has not made it a point to get the company to agree to cease hiring replacements while negotiations go on. Better yet, they should agree to have everyone go back to work while they continue bargaining. If they did either of these things it would foil the companies plans (and they could also claim the company requested this because they were being disrupted too severely). Im guessing the union is aware of this (they are probably are not as inept as some folks say) but the company simply won't agree to it (and is continuing to buy time with the Washington DC charade). I definitely wish no one on either side of this ill will, but this definitely looks like it has signs of some big changes in the workforce.

While union members rally to the cry of their great experience and training...today, right now, new temp workers have been hired and are in training. Contractors and former Frontier workers are already lined up to work with them on the job. While you all sit on the sidelines pointing to Friday's stock and Shammo quotes, the company is playing out a long term union breaking strategy. While you are being told the strike is working and breaking the company's will, you are being replaced....today....right now.

Wall Street will not wait for the replacement of 40,000 20+ year experienced work force. 5 weeks into this debacle has proved it takes to long. Verizon is hemorrhaging customers at an alarming rate and getting worse everyday. Even the CFO Fran Shammo has told investors the Strike is coming to an end.
