Relax folks... it's not the end of the world. Millions before you have survived this very same thing, including me. I had 22 years at Nortel and was laid off with no severance because they filed bankruptcy. Top level management was as corrupt as the day is long and nobody did any time. You will survive. It gets better with time. I got laid off in 2009, went to a competitor, less work, more money. More respect. Cannot complain.
I'm another AT&T lay-off survivor. I know it looks awful now and the future is scary, but persistence beats resistance every time. You will be ok and quite possibly much better!!
My husband had all the bells and whistles a hardworking, educated and intelligent employee could have but was surplused after we were purchased by AT&T. I was told by someone from Southwestern Bell to expect layoffs every 6 months and so far so true. Good news is my husband contracted back for a couple of years but decided no more and activated his realestate license and moved on. My point is have faith, we all have obligations but you learn to live on a lot less. There is life after AT&T. Good luck!

If you sit like a victim you will have it rough. Don't sit there asking why me, that's how you will fail. This is not the worst thing that can happen. Things get in motion when the person who's stuck has no choice but to fight.

True it is easy to say but take it from those of us who have recently gone through what you are facing, it will all work out and you will end up in a much better position. AT&T does offer a good severance package. Start looking for a job now. Don't wait to see if you are chosen for surplus. If you are make sure you take advantage of service offered in package to have a professional write your resume and career coach to guide you. Apply for unemployment as soon as employment ends if your state allows. You may just end up banking a large sum of money from surplus payout when you land a new job.
Easy to say. But, 3 kids, mortgage, loans, etc. I cannot relax.
