Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Union employees are not excluded in RIFF's

I see a lot of posts on here from union people saying that once this is over there will be RIFF's for EWAers, and you know what you are probably right, it's something that is almost expected, which is sad. But something you forget is that you union people are not safe either, sure there are some of you with seniority that wont be touched.... but what about who can be RIFF'ed.. the ones that at currently walking the picket line with you... your so called brothers and sisters... will you fight for them?? highly doubtful.. but it is okay you got what YOU wanted. When this is all said and done your 40,000 union brothers and sisters will be down to 30,000, look at the history in 2000 CWA for verizon had 80,000 union members, 2011- 45,000, 2016- 40,000... so yeah you guys keep walking the line.... you guys are creating your own demise...

If you have a job where you are being monitored for bathroom breaks...you need to improve your education and skills and get a higher level job where you are treated like a professional. I haven't had a job at with that level of monitoring since I worked in fast food after high school

They just call it something else for the union. Whether it's job elimination via a Process change or anEISP, result is the same. Off the books.

Corporate America would have you wearing a diaper at work to save time on bathroom breaks, but you just go ahead and keep defending them. They love useful idiots like yourself. Seriously, your labor has value, and the unions have brought up the living standards of both union and no union workers. As the unionization is shrinking in this country so is the middle class. This is not a coincidence. STOP FALLING FOR THE DIVIDE AND CONQUER ROUTINE!

@gtz RIFF, attrition, whatever makes you happy. Either way it's Verizon's way of slowly riding itself of the Union..

That's not a rif, that's called attrition. That is how the company should get rid of people, not by forcing concessions to be accepted.

You are right. There is a list already that has managers names on it to be RIFd and the only union members who will be let go are the ones who crossed the picket line and rescinded their membership. You will of course lose union members through attrition and retirement but thats to be expected. If you are a manager, which you sound like then your issue should be with why you do all this work for the company during the strike only to be let go afterwards. These execs have no soul whatsoever

The OP is correct. The numbers don't lie.

Instead of creating problems, the unions would be in a much better position if they started trying to show their value by encouraging their members to work hard and be team players. Instead, they only create issues which make Corporate America want no part of them. In the nutshell that's why you see unions fading away -- there is no business value in them.
