Where's The Much Hyped 5-20-16 Drop Dead, Lockout, Last, Best, Final Absolutely No Turning Back, This Is It For Sure, No Fingers Crossed Thingy

I'm was told for months that there was to be this crazy May 20th Union Hiroshima thing going on. What happened? The way this board was lit up. I was sure it was going to be today. Is half of this board just full of crap or is the Union the real deal here, because they did laugh at the May 20th thing.

Union people are stupid.. did you really think VZ would make a big production of it? Were you all waiting for an announcement? Whether you realize it or not, you just lost your jobs.

The Union had to ratify a vote on the offer by 5/20. That hasn't happened, even with mediation. I think the Union is toast and VZ is prepared for the long haul. I think we just lost our jobs....and I don't know where I'm going to get another.

EWAs are being brought back. Contractors are being brought in. The more contractors, the more trained replacements. Just saying

"5/20 deadline was met by CWA, they are just figuring out how to tell membership this weekend that they made a deal"

BS. The so-called "deadline" was calling for a ratification of the contract by 05/20.

Even if we were talking PST, that leaves about 7 hours for at least 50% of membership to vote on the contract...

"Stewards all called to DC yesterday for a meeting."

More BS. No stewards, chiefs or business agents were called in, at least not from District 1 which holds more than 50% of the striking membership.

"and soften the blow by treating us to a paid holiday the following Monday."

Can you even post a statement like this with a straight face? Just curious.

5/20 deadline was met by CWA, they are just figuring out how to tell membership this weekend that they made a deal. Stewards all called to DC yesterday for a meeting. Plan is to get us back next week so we can be eligible for the monthly feeds to benefit providers for June 1 and soften the blow by treating us to a paid holiday the following Monday.

Looks to me like the only thing getting replaced is the EWA, and they will be lucky to have a job when they get back home , because everyone else in there departments are GONE!

Certain parts of the LBAF offer are now off the table.

VZ may or may not put them back on.

"The next step is moving to replace those striking."

This is not true either. They will not replace us permanently. Most scabs are coming from other parts of the country. They will leave when the strike is over.

@MQR:It’s not really that critical, Honey.

No, it’s not the end-all some make it out to be, but it does have some legal signifigance. It indicates Verizon has reached a particular stage in bargaining, and is preparing for the next step. The next step is moving to replace those striking. That’s why union members start making threats and using profanity when this topic comes up. It makes them sound ignorant, but it actually shows they understand what it means… that scares them. When a person is scared, they lash out.

As long as they’re talking, I’m sure there’s not much to worry about.

From

http://ww2.kqed.org/news/2013/10/14/bart-strike-tactics-whats-a-last-best-and-final-offer

"A last best and final offer on a legal standpoint is a basis for the employer to implement terms and conditions on the unions should they be unable to reach an agreement. But it doesn’t mean that the efforts to get a tentative agreement acceptable to both sides has stopped."

The union won't know if 5/20 was truly significant until AFTER the deal is done. The contest ain't over. The fight is still on. Keep hope alive for a decent contract. The feds are involved now, so who knows what is going to happen.

So the whole 5-20 date was just hot air from the company? Stand to reason, because the Union didn't even blink.

5/20 was a tool EWA Union hater's used trying to make CWA members cross. Mad at the idea of assignment relocations and the indefinite duration. Their idea of LBFO and 5/20 was an expression of their own frustration in being caught up in this fight. They feel that if they can't bargain collectively, then why should we.

And to that I say,

"Don't hate, congratulate !"

Wrong. Check the LBFO. The relocation offer in LBFO is off the table if the contract is not ratified by EOD today.

The date of 5/20 that was posted here was a falsehood that was posted by several people that frequent this board. With that date now at hand, it is clear that the information posted was not correct.

Yes, it is still the 20th But what's Verizon waiting for then? You would think if they're so confident with their decisions, they wouldn't wait so late in the day would you?
