Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Get ready, it's coming today

Good morning all fellow Mobility Entertainment Group. The calls should start happening soon. The more I think about it, I am pretty confident with the information going around that calls will be done today. There is no way they are going to wait until Monday. They'd rather let us know today so we can absorb over the weekend. If they tell us Monday, we will be absorbing and not performing during the week. Plus, its before the Townhall. If an AM, Director, AVP has an impacted employee, they've attended one of the 3 Mandatory one hour HR calls to go over the process and required LSO (due to legal specifications). They're tight lipped as it needs to be announced at a certain time so that its hit around the same time vs events taking place all day. Good luck and prayers to those like me whe are stressed like crazy about being impacted. It's been a long road and I know they always say "when one door closes, another will soon open"

I was surplused in 2002 during the Cingular fiasco. Looking back it was the best thing ever. I had 12 years in and wanted to be a lifer. I was pissed when I got layed off however I never burnt any bridges when I left. ATT is such a large company that does business with so many others I didnt want to hurt my chances of I happen to land a position with a company that did business with ATT. Sure enough landed a job with an OEM 2and worked directly with the folks I had worked with and in fact worked with the guy who later me off. I couldn't be happier. ATT will keep cutting and cutting this is only the beginning Unfortunately. My recommendation is just expect this will happen to you. Ensure your job skills and resume are up to date and take the severance and move on to greener pastures.

I think the AE's in the rural areas that are not able to have a minimum number of doors that equals the rest of the market will get cut. Why pay for another AE when they already have company cars so negative impact to making them drive more.

This is my theory forr my state:

I ran the numbers based off of unofficially knowing who the ARSMs will be, having 5 AE per ARSM minimum, becoming a hybrid dealer/national retail AE, and the total number of indirect doors as of today. If they put the hybrid AE at 20 doors each, which would be a solid numbers in our market, we are going to loose 44% of us. Which makes sense since they cut the ARSM's by 50%. That's worse case scenerio. Who's to say they won't load up the arsm's with more than the minimum AE/NDAE. When I was hired on a few years ago, my ARSM had 8 AE's under him. Let's hope people volunteered and if they didn't, don't quit in a few months anyways so the ones that got let go maybe wouldn't have if they would have just volunteered.

Monday we have a group call with our VPGM in the morning but now I'm hearing that's just to tell us to sit tight because it's now Friday the 27th.

Each markets different. What market are you in? RAE will see the largest cuts.

The want limited number of RAEs to cover a large amount of NR accounts and rural areas, the ARSM will be mainly over ATT Retail and Authorized Retail

does anyone have any solid idea of the size of cuts to DOS/ARSM/NAE/RAE? Or what they are basing the cuts on? The worst part is not knowing... It's been a month.

No offical date was ever publicized. The 20th was assumed because it was a Friday.

Just to keep us effected managers on a knife edge for the weekend. I was just told by a very reliable source that Monday is the day, not today. This has been the most unorganized layoffs i've ever seen. There will be a lot of work getting done next week.....NOT!!!

It's been targeted Monday 5/23 for at least a couple of weeks.

Yes but a strike, surplus, bad pr would be the "perfect storm" to raise awareness in some of the bad practices (along with exec comp) and the paying for badly timed poorly executed deals with jobs.

Guys, the union contract negotiations have nothing to do with a delay in surplus notifications. Most folks getting let go do not have CP assignments. And those that do would have their surplus declaration delayed in the event of a strike; a strike that is highly unlikely I might add.

The delay could be due to disorganization, PR, or any other theories you might have, but it is not related to ongoing union negotiations.

Some of you, especially the DTV folks, may be new to this whole thing but AT&T is not. They have plans in place for union activities.

These delays aren't coincidence nor are they giving extra time for volunteers. This will be a large event, they are managing press response and trying to dodge a union bullet with folks in the field still working without a contract. Imagine an impeding strike with affected managers in surplus day 45-60.

I thought Randy had manipulated the union in his back pocket- this time around could be a disaster. PR, employees, customers, what a mess.

best thing for me too. I'm amazed that I stayed and became so comfortable -even after clear writing on the wall. It's like breathing new air. People will see this is for the best. There are no mistakes.

To get severance you only need to reply to one internal job. Just for the first couple days try your hand at several. Not to be negative, but it's by design that those jobs aren't for surplus folks and ionly know of one person who picked up an internal job that way. But still try, but ieiuldng spend a lot of time internally. Maybe one or two days with intense focus max.

@bpd. Does it have to be internal job searches periodically or do you have to report job searches externally?

@mfz.. I spent two weeks transitioning work. I also gradually stopped joining calls. After that I hit the street hard (Internet, job boards, LinkedIn). During the first two weeks I started the job search ramp up. Did one thing everyday in terms of just cleaning up resume etc. and worked my job search like a 9-5 after my two week transition.thet really is mgt expectation, that you are caring for your transition and looking for work.

What was the expectation for your current job during the 60 days? Do they expect BAU until you're gone or...

Good luck. I still follow these boards from time to time. I was laid off in late March. Let me tell you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I found a great job during my 60 days. And it takes an adjustment culturally. It's nice working in a place where people generally support each other and balance competition with cooperation. You are dodging daggers and knives (by folks who set out undermine/sabatoge you).

Things will work out. There are a lot of great companies that "get it".

Start an action plan and work it like your job. Network, clean up your LinkedIn, tighten up your resume, consider even ur own web presence. Do one thing fresh and new to advance yourself in the job hunt. All is well. And everything works out in the end.

Well, I don't think they see it as a big deal. Door changes will happen quickly essentially taking you out of the field. So the longer they stall they won't have to worry about you being in doors quite honestly. This is if you are an AE, ARSM etc.
