"By August the EWAS Will go home and it will be business"

Where did you hear that? Some people in our garage were asked specifically to outline their August vacation plans so there would be coverage. If the plan is for EWAs to be gone by August - why ask that question on the EWAs?

"I'm still calling week of June 1st as when deal gets done."

Not without major changes to the supposed LBFO on VZ's part.

Remember, 06/02 is the date that unemployment benefits kick in for NY...and these people will have zero problem staying out until the fall. And that's roughly 1/3 of all the membership involved from what I'm to understand.

My prediction? If the miracle doesn't happen - and I certainly don't expect one - so that we're back on the job before 06/01, this strike will drag on as long as the weather holds up.

@eli: yes, was told no vacations. I am fighting it and haven't canceled anything yet, but so far have been told no. IMO they at least should offer to pay any losses I'm hit with to cancel it, but we all know Verizon won't do it.

It makes me really, really want to go work for another company.

@nnk

Your vacation got denied? I would fight it. That is BS. Mine got approved as did many I know, but i'm on EWA. I think it's disgusting that the company is denying time off people had approved months ago. It's like they wanted everyone to put their lives on hold from August of 2015 until April. Ridiculous.

Do people honestly think VZ and the Union will agree on a deal after 2-3 days of mediation after months of not being able too? Only way is that quick is if the Union takes for VZ's previous offer or agrees to come back while still negotiating.

I'm still calling week of June 1st as when deal gets done.

I want this be over. I hope and pray every day that it will end. But don't put me, an EWA, in the same boat with the fools who walked off their jobs. I didn't cause this. The Company didn't cause this. The union didn't even cause this. The fools that walked away from some of the best middle class jobs in the US are solely responsible for their action and they are paying the price, now, and for the rest of their lives.

Could not agree more. As management, I have a lot of sympathy for the unions' basic premise -- we want good jobs with fair wages and we want to be treated with respect. It hurts me to watch a lot of honest, hard-working people and (more importantly) their families suffer. As other folks have documented, the union leaders seem to have fallen under the swoon of the spotlight and promised more than they could ever deliver and have now painted themselves into a corner.

Compounding that, SOME of the union members have really undermined their cause with management like me with by engaging in what most of us would agree is really vile and deplorable behavior. I witnessed strikes as far back as the 80s and union members didn't act like this.

At some level, I know the union members don't care, but they really should. This nasty behavior toward the EWAs and retained management makes it really easy for folks like me to ignore the legitimate points the union is trying to make and instead view the unions as the enemy. We say to ourselves, if this is who we are trying to woo back, maybe Lowell and Stratton are right and we are better off without the unions, which makes us work harder and feel better about doing it.

If the unions were smart, they would realize that the EWAs and retained management are your natural allies -- we all want the strike over as soon as possible, maybe even more than you do. It's sad.

Even those of us who aren't on EWA but are retained in our regular jobs are not allowed to take vacation.

I've got a week long vacation in Vegas starting next Thursday that I'm about to have to cancel and lose a LOT of money on if something isn't rectified. It's already annoying enough that the company has made their labor problems the issue of the rest of the employees, but it's even worse that we're forced to lose money on vacations we asked for six months ago.

I know the company doesn't give a sh-- about any of the employees, especially those in wireline, but it would be nice to be able to have normal life like people who work at other companies do.

"Another day no news this is b.s. for all involved"

Well, that's what one gets with a gag order, right?

What news exactly are you expecting anyway? Any real news will be communicated directly to everyone involved, be it from upper management or union leadership.

It's a nice sunny day outside. Enjoy it.

There's no news because there's nothing to report. Verizon made their last best final offer, the union rejected it continues to bring forward stupid and pathetic counters which the company continues to reject. More contractors are added every day. By August the EWAS Will go home and it will be business as usual for Verizon going forward without the burden of the CWA. You're looking for news? This was over the day the union did exactly what the company wanted them to do for 10 months and walked out on their jobs.

The union is at fault. Thanks to your Union replacement workers are fouling up the future of your jobs and stealing tools off your trucks and from customers' houses. Just like if you were a temp working for a temp agency, the scabs could care less. Verizon should can all scabs and workers should disown the pathetic union.
