Today's the day this "job action" officially becomes a lockout! This means that we are more likely to get our unemployment benefits, since it's considered an Unfair Labor Practice to threaten to fire strikers.

Its not taxpayers money jackass. Every company pays into unemployement "fund" or are self insures like verizon is. So by going on unemployement you are "sticking" it to verizon. Prrt! Internet..... so much info out there, its just lies.

Not in NY where the benefits hit on 06/02 and I'm pretty sure that NJ is on the similar page.
As for RI, it's not the matter of the state being corrupt. The company screwed themselves there by doing something that hasn't been done in other places, at least not in NY...do your research and you'll find out what exactly it is that I'm referring to.
There has been no lockout declared and no ULB. The strike is economic...look it up. Also, this whole notion of getting unemployment is a crock...and only furthers the notion that union folk are lazy and greedy. You walked off the job. Not the other way around. Plus. Those who make a high enough salary, most vz employees, get only a fraction of their paycheck; therefore, the longer the strike goes on the more money you'll lose...and won't recoup (unless it gets put into the contract). The strike needs to end...
LBFO is legalese for lockout and ULP. Verizon will either start to negotiate or pay out in UI. The company pays UI, not the taxpayers. It's not an "economic strike" because Union is trying to hang on to benefits and job security, not bargaining for more money. Expect movement now...
Why would Verizon lock out at this point...only makes the strikers possibly eligible for unemployment insurance? Wouldn't be a wise move. The 20th held significance with the LBFO... Also, RI is corrupt and that's being challenged. Let's hope that MA has some common sense since the union is not eligible for unemployment under labor laws...it's an economic strike not a lockout!
Congrats on making it on unemployment. It is truly something to celebrate. You guys stuck it to the man and now you are rewarded with assistance from tax payer dollars. Proud moment indeed.

You should be so lucky, but instead the company will not lock out the union so no unemployment benefits. The company will, however, bring in long term temporary replacement workers, and let the union stay on strike for as long as they like with no pay or benefits and no access to unemployment benefits.
