5/20 will be a non-event....

Today was going to be the day VZ started the lock-out of 38,000 Union employees. As a last ditch effort, VZ contacted the US Labor Dept and asked them to give the CWA/IBEW one last chance to bargain. This tactic was done to give the CWA/IBEW an opportunity to save face while still accepting mediation. Since the CWA/IBEW agreed to meet VZ agreed to hold off on the lock out. So today will be a non-event. By next Wednesday there will be an announcement that a deal is made and the Union will return to work on Tuesday 5/31 or Wednesday 6/1.

The deal will be very close to the LBFO with one or two minor concessions for the Union to say they worked hard to get the best possible deal.

OP, thank you. You re-affirmed what many of us thought. When the announcement came last Sunday night, we all saw the writing on the wall. Next week, looks like the Union will be offered one last bite of the apple. Make no mistake if there is no TA after meeting with the Secretary of Labor, and/or talks should stop then you will be seeing many us back (if we still can).

I posted this. Yes, I am VZ management. I don't care either way about some associates but most of you are VERY good at your jobs and hopefully you'll be back.

The first part of my comment was a bit of inside information. The return time frame is just a guess and my hope. IMHO I don't think the majority of associates want to be out but they have a tough decision to make. When this is over both of us will have to "get over it" and start making plans for the next argument we face.

What makes you think that a lockout takes place after 5/20? That's not at all what is going on. Jesus, I can't take how uninformed you are. It does NOT result in a lockout. Christ. Re-read the goddamn e-mail.

You're right, but you're also wrong. Today will be a non-event. Verizon will continue to shove the LBFO in the union's face. The union will continue to make stupid counter offers. And in a couple of months the "temps" will all be in place and the CWA will quickly be forgotten.

Source? Also, why would Verizon lock out at this point...only makes the strikers possibly eligible for unemployment insurance? Wouldn't be a wise move. The 20th held significance with the LBFO...
