Agree on the need for the backbone but that is what CW is going to handle and I'm not sure the bean counters favor owning or renting those pipes and towers long term - heck, they don't even want to own their own offices. We use a patchwork to get towers/network today.
Majority of call center support and CMB installs are really not needed and are basically a drain - especially POTS @ this point. 99%+ of Americans has a cell phone and I feel anybody renting an STB (or even paying for a cable pkg by the end of 2016) is being ripped off. So, 2/3's of the "triple play" are dead. Which leaves us to 1 "device" that brings together the ONT/hotspot/router and then just Wifi extenders, so people can get on the Internet and stream both up and down at suitable speeds.... Do not kid yourself - that is what the future of the US consumer market is.
Given VoiceLink about 3 or 4 more generations and you have a complete wireless solution that reuses (or at least puts the burden on the customer to provide) existing coax, IW, CAT5, etc. No ONT, no router, no messy wires or nasty strikes... A real self-install because you plug in the power and everything is Wifi - it will have coax, CAT5 and phone jacks if you really want to plug that old stuff in but that's rarely a problem w/ IoT devices and modern society. A chat-bot to help you fix it.
Now, please explain to me again - why do I need to pay so much for fiber or any kind of actual wires beyond the tower and into my neighborhood?
FYI. Those of you talking about 5g and landline are sadly mistaken. VZW is moving to their own backbone. They are currently migrating all circuits from any SONET based landline systems to dedicated fiber while building their own fiber network backbone. I imagine the cut from that will occur with the sale of VZ landline to Frontier.

The stock is still up from where it was for years. I bet the MCI, Enron, and all the other scam corporations are still waiting for it to be up? For the record I wouldn't hold the stock because their soul less POS. There are still people that attempt to do something because it's the right thing to do. Like serve in our military. Then there are cowards like you.
For the record, all the backbone wiring and long-haul equipment is landline. There will be a huge increase in bandwidth (5g), IOT meaning more wires and small cellular equipment (with wires) all over the country. Lets be clear that FIOS (landline techs) are forced to work 12 hours a day 6 days a week and can't keep up with demand. Not including all the areas which are having a fit to get the service they were promised. That doesn't even touch on Verizon Enterprise delivering the huge bandwidth to business and government who will never go wireless. Also, you must have missed the huge amount of debt VZ has collected along the way. We are a long way from really being wireless.

Dude, you are crazy. This stock is a long-term cash cow. Forget the minor ups and downs on the price, it pays excellent dividends based on ever increasing wireless metered data usage. You may hate Lowell on the landline side but the guy seems to know how to make $$$$ off cellular and seems to be figuring out ad/media/OTT.
The only thing dead here is landline consumer service which the US has basically left for dead anyway. And VZ is selling it off as we speak.
Do you think cellular data speeds have peaked? Do you think consumers care about anything more than an Internet connection? Get real - it ain't the 1900's anymore. The revenue is growing - just not in all divisions of the company.
