Been with the company for over 20 years & of course a few strikes. Never seen anything like this one from the inside. Software & technology have minimized the typical chaos. Not eliminated but definitely minimized it. Remote repair has cut down on a lot of the frivolous dispatches, making it a more manageable load on the field techs. This is all improving daily as they get better and more people are trained. Very few know how to do these jobs on day 1 but it's amazing how much smart people can learn when they are under pressure of a customer and putting 70+ hours per week into it. The customer feedback has not been anywhere close to as bad as previous years. I know no one wants to hear that but it's the truth. Reality is that technology has made this easier. Company is full speed ahead with hiring contractors and training additional EWA. It feels like the assumptions have already been made that the union will not accept any deals offered and their members will be replaced, which is just awful for thousands of families. I'm sure there are some who have made 6 figures for years will just watch this go down in flames and when they run out of money go get some new line of work. The vast majority are not in that situation. I sure hope the union leadership recognizes what's going on here and does not leave mediation without a deal. Some fights are winnable over a lengthy time and some aren't. I have zero doubt that Vz, a business with global revenue, can withstand a long one and come out just fine after the collateral damage is made up. How many families can say the same? I know I couldn't. Peace out and hoping this comes to a quick and fair end for all...

Why don't we stand with the union???? Because your union demands amnesty for members who screamed at co-workers that they should be raped. And that one should miscarry because her baby will be deformed. The problem is that you have the WORST of your group doing abhorrent things to the same people your group is seemingly courting to join ranks. That just doesn't work. I get that all union members aren't like that - but you'd be better off getting your idiotic members to shut the f*ck up and quit making so many enemies of the people you JUST CAN'T BELIEVE aren't STANDING NEXT TO YOU.
If you can't control your crazy, rabid member from screaming about how he wants to rape someone and kill them - then I'm not even going to consider joining your team when its weakest links have anger issues and mental instability. I would prefer to distance myself from that brand of crazy and any organization to which he or she belongs.

Like the union? Try being on this side of the line and dealing with arrogant my way or the highway union members who don't look so good most of the time. I understand everyone wants their way, but union tactics don't really work so well anymore with a civilized society.

The thugs at Zeckendorf Blvd in Garden City, NY look like they were just released from Riker's Island. When they use airhorns and bring their children, it reminds you that they will always be a bunch of diks that society scorns.

When you Unite as a work force you will not taken advantage of, Your hard dedicated work will not be dismissed to reach a number. You will not be rif'd to reach a number. You will have respect from your employer, and you deserve that...What's wrong with that? Is it to much to ask of a CEO that is making millions on your work. His pay check comes through what you do everyday.

The OP is a Company Voice Of Doom....Designed to friendly scare you. He act's like your friend in caring with nothing but fear in his motive.
The bottom line is the bottom line. As long as investors see long term profits being better without the union the company has the go ahead to keep on it's current course. Pickets, untrained workers, sabotage, and still the stock is looking good. Whether investors are guessing correctly that life without the union will be bettor is a different matter and only time will tell, but for now they seem to want the union gone.
The union will realize how outdated their thinking is when the final contract looks lot like the one already on the table. Technology, as well as a declining business model, have really decreased the importance of the union. I'm not saying the jobs aren't important, but the fact remains that with shrinking union membership, this strike isn't hurting the company like previous ones have. It's hurting, but it's not crippling them. This is the first strike towards removing the union. If the union gives back this time, then the next negotiation will almost certainly see the end of majority of contract terms. That is if wireline is even part of VZ in 2-3 years.

The bottom line is the customer, doesn't matter what happened before. Company spin / Union spin, It is what it is. Verizon did not prepare well for this strike, that says a lot. This will be resolved. Nobody will be replaced. All players have a vested interest in ending this . Period.
