Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The best bosses are secure...

I have found, over 20 plus years as a Verizon employee in a variety of situations, that a boss who is jealous of you (for any reason) is a nightmare to work for.

Sometimes they envy you your life (as in family, friends, relationships, etc) but more often it is being jealous of your skills, abilities or work relationships.

The best bosses are secure in themselves, feel no need to "compete" with others, are confident in their own abilities and skills and therefore are not tempted to belittle or undermine effective employees.

OP is absolutely correct. And not only are insecure managers difficult, if not impossible, to work for, they invariably promote the weak, the non-threatening, and otherwise unqualified - in other words, people just like them, people who accuse their employees of not being "team-players" or "having bad attitudes".

The worst thing a company to do is to allow these people into management. It only leads to disaster.

This workplace is full of angry management, it's the culture that has been grown and accepted. When supervision brags on conference calls about how much suspension time they have given, that's not managing. I think most 1st levels would be fine, it's the power hungry above them that is the problem. These people think what they do matters.

Glad to hear you are happy with your EWA manager. That is a rarity. I was brought up through a progression. With that came respect. In every group I worked I rarely had issues with the people I managed. I see part of the problem is managers who do not want to admit "they don't know".

I have a fantastic EWA manager...can't say enough good things about this man. I wish I could take him back to my BAU job!

Not looking good for the unions.

The union is the only thing keeping most of these people out off welfare. There are so many who would starve if the union didn't protect them. The union hurts its best workers by allowing the bottom feeders to survive at their expense. There are valuable people out there who dont deserve to sink with the losers and genuinely deserve union protections as ELITE workers. The unions did this to themselves.

Call center work is not something I can add on my resume, but know, we are praying for a rif. Have fun with this company and your next strike in 2 short years,

HA, working with these union supervisors who know nothing of the jobs they supervise is a joke. You want them back so we stop questioning you and stare at you with a puzzled look when yet again, you have no idea what I am asking you. I guess they are used to it. My EWA Supervisor does nothing all day. At least try to look busy. What a fool. Just trying to figure out who would care when I get back home.

Yeah but these bosses are long gone, either RIFd, or finally couldn't stand it anymore and got post 2011, when McAdam came in and instilled his horrible VZW culture.

Now we're stuck with angry sycophants who admittedly are here to build a resume and move one. Except for one thing: there's nothing to move on to, hence their horrible, smarmy, self-hating attitudes.

Oh bud don't worry, they'll be riffed soon and replaced by a new dog & pony show.
