I think this is the case. If so, and the last 5 weeks were for nothing (in that we are right where we could have been 5 weeks ago), but this approach allows the union to appear to "win", who cares. This is a situation where both sides want to appear to have come out on top (this is particularly true of the union, as they have to keep membership somewhat appeased, whereas the majority of the VZ supporters (aka stockholders) obviously could care less about winning/losing some silly battle). The win for this side is based on stock price and dividends, and these has not been affected at all.

Id also be rather surprised as well. Not many companies want to operate in this type of environment....the risk / reward relationship is not favorable.
Last couple posts nailed it. The usual political posturing but the net will be something close to the BAFO with strike prohibition. Union will try to find something they can hang their hat on, but won't get much. Would be surprised if wireline is still part of Vz in 2 yrs.
Verizon won't let them back unless they agree not to strike again (just like last time) so I suspect the threat of another strike won't be there.
The union leaders will order the workers back "while negotiations continue". After a few months of talks when everyone is comfortable working again they will recommend a contract almost identical to the one they have been refusing for a month. The members will vote for it so they don't have to go on strike again.
Yep... vz will move a little to give Shelton a bone he can show off as proof that he fought for something. But, for the most part it'll be lbfo. Then the union can come back to work with their tails between their legs. I can'tell imagine that shame.
Unions will accept the contract. They have everything to lose.

Former FMCS director George Cohen resigned after an Examiner series exposed multiple spending, management and personnel abuses, including Cohen using tax dollars to buy artwork created by his wife.
The mediator is Allison Beck. She has fought for unions, look her up. Negotiations overseen by Thomas Perez, look him up. Feel their stances as it comes to corporations and labor.
Might actually be a good thing for the union. Maybe with this combo, 35 days were not be for nothing. Look them up before shatposting. Intelligent responses only.

looks good for VZ accepting mediation.
They are bargaining in good faith.
Mediation is not binding arbitration.
VZ may move a bit, but not much.
I hope it is better, but I don't think VZ will deviate much at all. They may be willing to absorb some additional costs on healthcare in order to give something back, but I don't see it being vastly different than the current.

The union has to go to mediation now. They couldn't get VZ to budge, so now that they get a Mediator involved, they can blame them when the final contract looks exactly like the one already on the table.
I could have lasted a few more months, damn spell.
Either way, I look at it as a nice break. I couldn't have lasted a few more months, but over a month off? Can't beat it! And I still have vacation days when I get back!

hyy I think you are correct. Leadership hoped that backing Sanders would pay off big in the end. Then as his chances of being nominated looked less and less they were unwilling to back down from their stated positions. Now, with both sides talking and a mediator involved, maybe there is a chance that we can get back to work. Maybe while the negotiations continue, just like in 2012.
We went on strike for political agenda. Just think we could have been working this last month. This whole thing stinks!
yep, it appears union wasted 35 days to accept this. I wonder how much money and emotion could've been saved for both company, EWA folks and union members if union leadership had not wasted 35 days.
