I just heard on the radio here in the tri-state area a commercial from Verizon about hiring folks for striking workers-why would they still be advertising if they are back at the table?

Verizon does not want the unions back. Thry are willing to take the pain in the short term in return for being able to compete with TMobile and Sprint in the long term. It will hurt, to be sure. But, the upside is huge for Verizon.
The "negotiations" at DOL are a dog and pony show. Nothing more. Obama threw Mooney and Shelton a lifeline and they were too stupid to take it. Verizon knows that all they need to do is smile for the cameras.
More replacements are hitting the line every day and the EWAs are getting better and better. Call centers are being outsourced as we speak. Neither the public nor the mainstream media care about this. The Kardashians and Donal Trump get more clicks.
It is all but over. The unions just don't realize it yet.
Because Union is going down.
The company has been in worst case scenario planning for a while now, they will continue to do so until the strike is over or the contract is signed. Mediation and ongoing meetings mean nothing until a deal is done. Even if associates come back to work prior to a new contract in place, they can walk out again - although the company may put a 'strike notification' stipulation in effect.
No one in the union is suffering? I found that hard to belive. If things are so good I wonder will they are cutting cables all over including cables to hospitals and assited living homes. Real nice guys, shows your class.
Union management needs to realize that no one is suffering right now except for their members. VZ has the resources to outsource and the fact that they are willing to go to the extent that they have been since the start of the strike speaks volumes. Unfortunately, this is all at the expense of the union members and union management is responsible for this.

Replacement workers? The EWA workers sucked so how good can the replacement workers be....Lets face it, this Sh-t is going down the tubes. Verizon didn't expect this. You Company cheerleaders can post all the Sh-t you want to try and put a positive spin on this failure. But you can't put a silk hat with a bow on a pig, and say it looks good. Although you suckers try that's for sure.

Verizon is running a business. They can't leave customers hanging. They are still training and hiring replacement workers. In fact there are now enough upcoming replacements that EWA workers are being rolled back a bit in the next month.
No guarantees that anything positive will come out of these meetings, why would you think there would be? Verizon answers to no one.
Verizon is a very arrogant company with no regard for any authority, They look at themselves as bigger than any business, larger than the government, Under no one's rule, country or God. They probably look to their CEO as their God. I'm not joking.
Because regardless of any strike outcome, Verizon plans on pushing Unions away from work. While many union workers are smart and hard working, many take advantage of the job security and Verizon knows it. This is too much for bean counters to miss on a product that continues to have a shrinking profit margin.
cause they're smart.... they are covering their bases. there's no guarantee these talks are going to go anywhere. I'd expect to continue to see an expansion in contractors/vendors until an agreement is signed.
