Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

A Simple Solution

If VZ extends the last contract with no changes, it will be ratified.

VZ can continue to offer quarterly retirement offers and bring in new employees under different benefit plans.

The current membership will be whittled away, albeit slowly. But these workers can retire from Verizon and Verizon will eventually get what they want.

That should have been the plan all along. Kill the union with a million papercuts but the executive board got too greedy, pulled out a sledge hammer, and it bounced back up into their face.

"If VZ extends the last contract with no changes, it will be ratified. "

Had VZ had any intention of doing this there would've been no strike in the first place.

"Future bargaining can always change benefits. Keep that in mind. Can change 2003 and 2011 agreements."

Very true. Unfortunately, the results can go two ways...

"Don't you think the membership already knows they may be in a fight they can't win in this crazy year."

Before declaring a fight as one that can't be won. I'd like to understand what exactly needs to be won. As far as I'm concerned, no givebacks on anything apart from health coverage would be a win. Is that likely to happen? Now that the mediators have stepped in, I'm inclined to sadly state "no".

New hires already ARE brought in under a new plan. No job security after 2003 and no defined pension plan after 2011 as agreed upon by the divide and conquer union team. Ohhhh that hurts right my fellow union boys and girls? Well yes.. that's what the truth does sometimes. 37K blind mice following the pied piper?? Not me.. I get a refund check every Feb for 52% of my dues because I will not give to a Communist ideology. You may at your own free will and detriment.

Because its better than no union. Don't you think the membership already knows they may be in a fight they can't win in this crazy year. At least if they are not completely busted they can start rebuilding. Vzw is waiting.

Lol you are accidentally exposing a problem with unions. Why would your leadership push for an agreement that results in the guarantee of less due paying members in the medium and long?

Been saying that same thing for years. It's easy.
