Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Sales and retention

No one seems to be mentioning anything about sales and retention centers. Are these groups under scope as well?

Well if you think about it, when Att purchased DTV they mentioned we were going to be surplused. They are not going to keep 2 technical depts they are not going to keep 2 sales dept and they are not going to keep 2 retention depts. It's just common sense they are going to cut a lot of redundant jobs. They got rid of our Directv 3rd party group ,human resources , site directors, Rem dept, Q.A. and now our team leaders will be cut in half. Directv call centers employ 800 or more employees. On the ATT side how many employees do you have in a call center? I heard that Att call centers employ 400 max, is that true? If so then I would assume more of the layoffs unfortunately come from the Directv side. People read between the lines. If you pause and watch your surroundings and notice differences before the merge that should be your answer. You know very well that management can't warn of any layoffs

You're making $70k with only 180 hr/yr overtime and you are wondering why AT&T is letting people go? AT&T will just send the job to Brno and they will do it for less than $17k yr.

Wait! Wait! Wait! From 110k down to 70k and you're still working there? That's a 40k drop from the high point. So either your high was a total freak of nature and 70k is the norm or if 110k is the norm then you're just stupid for working for 40k less. 40k difference!!! Who has that kind of money to throw around!?!? (Shut up Randall!)

Sorry but no one feels sorry for you if you're working in a call center making $110,000 a year.

Agreed about the union.. Seems like they are only concerned with Vzn. When you ask a steward to give a update they just shrug you off!

Our center is a ghost town, parking lot empty, but still told to sell sell sell, while the commission making calls are sent to contractors and only thing left is to clean up their messes of wrong orders and disconnects.

This is bullshit. In my center, we have seen our 6 floors cut down to half a floor. Every week people are being let go, and no one is being hired. Mandatory 11.5 (not including closing the que) hour days. Cutting our lunches down to 30 minutes. Meanwhile, our mighty union sits on its thumbs and does nothing. Seems like the CWA is more concerned with the Verizon strike, than they are with thousands of people losing their jobs. Our Union is a joke.

So to this, I call bullshit. On my floor, they are firing people for any reason they can find. Wake up people. I have seen our department go from over 300 people down to 100 in just a few months. They continue to move out furniture from the other 5 floors, and new companies are already checking out the building......

But yet our management, who is telling us we are safe, are cleaning out their offices. If you work at AT&T, you realize the company only cares about money. They have literally quadrupled our metrics and we are working at least an extra 40 hours a month, but making less money. Dont believe me? I made $110,000 in 2014. I made 85,000 last year, and this year despite working an extra 180 hours of ot, I am on pace to make 70,000. How is this possible?

Probably for good reason. They aren't on a surplus list. Most people here are posting about a surplus notice that has already been confirmed.
