Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

hearing the Entertainment Group will be Monday

can anyone confirm that verbals will go out this friday? all ive been told is written notices will go out next monday and wednesday.

the only place ive seen about this friday is this website so im curious how confident yall are.

also, i would imagine everything would be done in time for Luries town hall on the 24th. you would think he would go over new structure.

A layoff is a loss at least it was for me, even given the fact we'd had org layoffs at least for 2 years. You do grieve some, you do question ur worth and next steps. That's not feeding fear. If you're targeted, you will feel some sadness. That is the truth. A layoff is an ending actually and metaphorically. Now what you do with the info, is how you change your life for the better. I'm not about to tell someone to stop whining a day before the verbal notice. It seems like all that "your being a (insert expletive)" comes from people still with ATT jobs who don't think they're targeted yet. Anyway, it's par for the course. Many of the comments really are an outgrowth from att culture as others have stated.

It comes down to lack of management integrity and a failed business plan

I think it's bad to put fear into people that are impacted. Fear such as, this is not enough, this is just like death, you can't find something quickly. It kills people's spirits.

Hypocritical to think one person can't tell someone else how to feel, yet feed their agony by saying this is the worst thing besides death for you.

The poster said "I" pretty clearly not "this is how you should feel". Called a debate with facts not opinions such as what you are using.

Come on now...this is att, so you're naturally going to find people who will tell you what to think, post and how to feel about your layoff notice. What amuses me is everyone's situation/salary is different, so Whois anyone to tell anyone else what is fair. I thought personally that 50% severance at retirement doesn't make sense and isn't right, but again everyone's situation is different. Greed as nothing to do with it.

A layoff is like a death ( no matter how much u hated the job) and just like grief )within some reason no one can tell u HOW to do it. I was laid off 6 weeks ago and had a better offer b4 last day on payroll. But I wanted every penny of my severance and to not give anyone reason to fire me first.

And with 35k more At a more laid back place with good culture, I'm still pissed. Because it wasn't right how me and a few others on the team were treated.

whiny, mad, unaffected...no one has a right to tell u how to feel/grieve. As long as ur moving forward and ur processed feelings aren't keeping u from taking action...what is the problem?

Well, nothing is really stopping you from putting your two weeks in and pursuing another job. If you want out that bad, why not go for it?

I don't think you should take what you get, however crying and moaning is getting quite old. I do think the severance is fair, considering your other benefits such as pension and 401k. My wife was laid off from her job and she got $500 for busting her assmore than me. I gave them X years but they paid me for X years, it is a trade off that I have accepted by continuing my employment at ATT.

It's like everyone has become that whiny customer who complains about a dropped call and being a customer for 25 years and asking for free service for a year. I hope everyone can learn from this and position themselves better for their future because if this blindsided you it's quite laughable. This layoff has been occurring for years.

Remember when the RAMs and NRFRS were cut a couple of years ago? Remember when the NDAE's in some markets were cut about 6-8 months ago? Now another large cut DOS down to RAE and other positions?

Remember them delegating and taking some stuff off of our plates like ANR and RSS and password resets and credits and telegence work? Remember them making our jobs easier? Yea, that wasn't to help us, it was to replace us. I hope next time people can be more prepared and take it and become something from it. sh-- start a company from it, there is so much you could do besides bitch and moan

Why are some of you people going off the rails??? If it's not one telling people what to post it's another name calling and telling people to be happy with what you get. Greed is throwing darts at a board for strategy, cutting jobs to pay for your short sightedness and still getting 20 million to do it.

I and everyone else eligible for a severance earned every damn penny. And if you can substantiate/negotiate for more do it. Some of the decisions where poorly excecutes, unfair and below board. I know at least three layoffs that were personal, so yes under those and many other circumstances if you can leverage more ...get it. This is chess. Why should Randy and friends be the only winner?

What are you expecting lifetime severance package? How about you take care of you instead of hoping someone else will.

It's a job, they pay you for your time. You agree to it don't be a pussy when you get laid off.

"No time to be greedy" that's hilarious. Is that you Randy???

Yes same for everyone. It's still an involuntary severance even if you volunteered. The package is actually pretty decent considering they are not legally obligated to do it. No need to be greedy, you can take time to get things together if you are good with your financials.

Are they offering volunteers the standard severance package? It's pretty poor.

Everyone gets a max 60 days. That's a legal hurdle they can't get over and is required to provide for a company over 500 employees. You can leave after I think June 13th but you could stay on the payroll for up to 60 days

i think the time frame everyone is hearing is 20th at earliest to 25th at latest. monday is the consensus

The date is the 20th. If you're hearing anything different, don't listen. ATT will NOT do verbals - they will present (or email) you the notification after your meeting, if you aren't retained by the company. The date is SOLID for the EG (including Retail and Support). HR is still working through getting all the letters and information ready. The last minute "volunteer" request caught HR and everyone off-guard. Yes, GL will speak to this - and you know he'll make it sound great! He's a sales guy!

So what if you DID volunteer? And idea when we will be advised we're good to go? Will there be an option 1 (60 days) or option 2 (21 days) for volunteers?

Entertainment group. Told that everyone who volunteered was accepted and they are doing one more round of volunteers for relocation with a 3 day acceptance then the rest will be notified. So may 27th looks like the date if you didn't volunteer

I'm a legacy DTV employee in LA and I've heard different dates from different sources. Some say verbals will be on the 20th with formal written on the 23rd. I would bet that the 23rd would be the latest folks would hear.

Not only is Lurie's thing on the 24th, but we in LA are hearing that Chandler will be onsite that week as well, and the news should have come before then
