Great article. Union guys should read up on the downfall of the American auto industry, thanks to the Unions' failure to make realistic compromises. The city of Flint, Michigan among others in the Midwest are now ghost towns as a result. Time to get a grip on reality.

Packs of lies in the whole article....when someone says 7.5% wage increase, makes you think thats every year of the contract, right ? WRONG, thats spread over 3 years. Forbes is that pesky 1% that wants you to think the 99% is wrong and out of touch. Wants to leave you the impression all workers get $130,000 salary ( that would be Band 6 management getting that )...if the union workers actually got that kind of salary you all would have applied long ago !!!! They are adding in all benefits, even if you didnt take them like, like tuition assistance , medical for family of four, etc....Funny how Forbes mentions the monopoly days are gone and salaries cant be extravagant ( except for the CEO and exec pay, of course don't look over there),,, pure 1% trickery to make it seem like workers are the greedy ones. Verizon did not open up opportunities to the union for other advanced technology jobs to replace the dying copper ( and duh, yes the union knows people arent buying landlines- that's why they are fighting to stay in good jobs that matter). It's people like him that are causing the revolution starting in this country,..we arent going to take it anymore !

This ladies and gentlemen in a nutshell is what every single no union American citizen thinks about this strike. If they even know about it to begin with.

@crk - I'm sure similar was said by an auto worker back in the day... We can learn a lot from history.

Words of wisdom from a known right-wing, pro-corporate "journalist" and Faux News darling. All of Verizon's talking points repeated ad nauseam. No word on both the Detroit auto plants and Fairpoint filing for bankruptcy protection which put their unionized workforce in the corner when it came to negotiating the terms of their very existence...right.

Verizon about to file bankruptcy with $1.8B in monthly profits? I don't think so.

I'll pass on Mr. Forbes' lesson. Today and on most other days as well, thank you.

Good article by Steve Forbes and very accurate. If the Union wants to be relevant it will need to re-think it way of bargaining and to understand the changes in technologies.
