Verizon's LBFO gesture is going to cost them big at the table. Union can trade this chip and other ULPs for concessions. I see Verizon being forced to not contest UI in exchange for the union not filing (or dropping, since I think they did) ULP, which they should. If NLRB finds for the Union, Verizon could be forced to pay back wages. Never happens, but it's there.
Agreed. I doubt the union will be able to come back unless the agreement is SIGNED. The last negotiation took so long that I suspect Lowell will not be inclined to let them come back until we have a firm agreement.

There won't be a fast return to work this time around unless the union accepts the lbfo.
Not saying this to be silly, the company is too vested to turn back now.
Previous entry is correct as we were on strike for 2 weeks and went back working while new contact details were being worked out. We are not in mediation att so its a bit different. Please read original DOL posting. Allison Beck, an experienced federal mediator who the parties agreed today would assist in the ongoing contract negotiations. Call it baby sitting over both parties so they they may play nice. Some say union did members wrong by going back in 2011 and union members lost.

No. You're referring to the arbitration from 2002/2003 which indeed took 7 months.
The last time around - which is the only time in recent history that federal mediators did get involved - strike lasted for only two weeks and the workers went back while the new contract was being developed/mediated. That part of the process took about a year, with a lousy - from union's perspective - end result to boot.
Sorry read your question wrong. We went back to work right away once mediation agreed to. Then took 7 months to craft the deal.
Last time they went back to work right away after a 2 week strike and then began the mediation process.
