Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bad news

AT&T (NYSE: T), CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and other telcos collectively added just 65,893 broadband subscribers in the first quarter as customers churned to cable operators that can offer higher speeds, particularly in areas where slower speed DSL is the only available broadband service.

This is the second quarter where telcos lost ground to cable in the broadband race. By comparison, the wireline community overall lost 185,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2015.

According to Leichtman Research Group, there were a total of 3.03 million net broadband adds in the 12 months to the end of March, up slightly on 3 million a year earlier.

Why continue to build out FiOS when there are abandon ont's that have the facilities but no active service. Think about it.

Not sure how VZ can retain DSL customers when cable broadband is faster and cheaper. Time to complete the FIOS build where they agreed to build it.

VZ added FIOS subscribers and lost DSL subscribers. Given what each respectively costs to run, I'd imagine VZ is probably happy with this outcome.

Just continues to prove the point that VZ needs to reduce the number of wireline works as demand slows. Any union member reading this (if in fact any of you can actually read) should take this as clear indication that your usefulness is quickly disappearing. Writing is on the wall.

That's what happens when you don't build out FiOS and no one wants wireless.
