Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just out of curiosity, how many of you Union members know why you're striking?

from what I've heard around the picket lines, most of your strikers don't even know why they're striking when asked about details regarding what they consider "fair wages" and "job security".. they just regurgitate the same old song and dance.. and most of them want to go back to work but the union will come after their wages unless they denounce their "membership".. pretty sad that the union workers are stuck in limbo - wanting to return to work but scared of their own fraternity of worthless "brothers" who will come after their wages..

All the union knows is that the big bad corporation won't let them sit on their useless a$$es any longer doing nothing. Maybe they will actually have to work and be productive. That alone is enough to make them walk a picket line. Oh, wait. They actually don't walk, they just sit on their butts in lawn chairs. They can't even do a strike the right way.

They want their birthday off. They want free medical. They want free tuition for their family. They want a 90yr old tech to keep doing installs even though they can't see and use 6 months of FMLA a year. Management don't even get what they're asking for. Last time I checked, I was hired by verizon not the Union.

This strike is a prime example of the reason jobs get outsourced and offshored.

"Stop offshoring all of the call center work".. they would be closing down call centers that are more expensive to keep operating than they are profitable.. and it is only 5 centers with less than 200 jobs... not "all of the call center work".. its a business decision, nothing personal.. and as for the medical costs, not sure where you're getting your information from, would you mind providing a credible source?

Offshoring of call center jobs, increasing use of roving workforces ( which was bad under old contract) pension cap, locking in current mortality tables to calculate pension. This from a company that's doing just fine in spite of dumping expenses into wireline to make wireless look better.

This strike is to keep jobs in the United States. Stop offshoring all of the call center work.

The other main reason is retiree healthcare they currently pay 78 a month with current offer from VZ it would go to 220 a month in 2018

but yet none of you union strikers that have commented on this have given any details as to why you're striking... like the post was asking... so lets hear it fellas, why are y'all striking? fair wages? what do you consider fair? job security from day 1? (as if that will ever happen) you guys want more paid vacation (but want to be paid more)? WHAT DO YOU WANNTTTT?? doesn't even seem like what you guys want is what your leaders are bargaining for anyway.

"pretty sad that the union workers are stuck in limbo "

Keep on dreaming. People know why they're out. Not everyone is good with words, especially when given 30 seconds while facing a camera.

No one is stuck anywhere. Those who want to cross will cross.

The rest of us will stay out and see this one through.
