After the company passes the same piece of paper across the table for 9 months they finally agree to really bargain for a contract after the Labor Secretary demands it....and somehow people suspect the uninstalling caved? My God our management is dumber than I ever imagined!

I don't think the Union will be back this week. The Union wants to control the management decisions of the company; the company feels otherwise. I would be hard pressed to think the Union will be back anytime soon unless they give in on the non-mandatory bargaining items that fall under management decision/direction. Those items would be employee movement, RIF offers and the such. I seriously doubt VZ will accept any contract where they cannot at will reduce or relocate headcount.

says discussion will continue for the week in washington under the secretary of labor. I'm hoping by the end of the week they will agree to return to work monday and hash out everything while back to work.

They are meeting again.

Do not know if it means anything or not.

It would not look good for either side to just walk away.

i'm sure they will keep meeting since the DOL requested it. I doubt there is any movement. At this point the company has spent enough resources started the training of replacement that they might be committed to breaking the union, not dealing. The union has kept their members out for so long pushing for a better contract than the LBFO that they also are not likely to accept that offer. All the company has to do is keep saying LBFO until those replacements get up to speed. They have already spent the money and these are not people who walk away from an investment without getting some return.

They are not going to get it done in one day. I would think it is a good sign if they meet again tomorrow.
