Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Lets get it done AT&T... you've held our lives in limbo long enough......

Entertainment Group Surplus - all we know (Level 1 Mgrs: RAEs, NDAEs, Level 2 and Level 3 mgrs) is that a surplus is coming. You notified us on 4/22 with an expected date of 5/13 for job or surplus notifications. You delayed notification last week to allow for a pointless volunteer program - with no guarantee for action in either direction. Why the hell wasn't this in place at the main announcement on 4/22? You're buying time for some reason and impacting an unknown number of managers' lives and families. Its damn near been an entire month. The fact that you've drug this out since our first notification on 4/22 is unacceptable. For a company that claims to care about us - your lack of respect in this matter speaks volumes to the contrary. I no longer trust AT&T, and if I'm not surplussed (even though I did volunteer), I will be looking for another job and leaving the company behind as fast as I can. No one can convince me that the new org chart isn't completely filled out and ready to go. The decisions are made (and likely have been for some time). Quit stalling and get it done - for those of us who helped pull Authorized Retail up out of the abyss and turn them into mini COR stores: you owe us that much. But then again, you are AT&T - so I should have learned by now that we really don't matter. Your recent actions prove that to be true.

We were told (by our ARSM) to keep our calendars clear on Monday... expect calls. I also emailed the VPGM to see when we could expect some notification, and Monday (the 23rd) was the date given.

If ANYONE in legacy AT&T thinks that they are making cuts to make room for DTV folks, you are SERIOUSLY mistaken. "Surplusses" left and right along with making working conditions untenable for many folks at the call centers. My trainer was just moved to salary and so without OT cannot afford to travel to train vendor sites. They are being told that they have to travel. No change in pay OR title, just moved to exempt. A single person that has no family having to arrange for child care for minimum 3 weeks (which they have to pay for childcare since AT&T certainly isn't going to pony up the money) up to 7 weeks without any way to offset their added cost? How is that legal? And then to be told that refusal to do the job is cause for termination? That means no eligibility for unemployment! AT&T is evil. I pray I find another job soon.

This has seriously been the most annoying situation. Like can you tell us already because we have our lives to figure out and we aren't children. I have been trying to get a hold of my manager for three days and been getting no response or call back yet they expect us to go about our jobs business as usual like this isn't looming over us? Oh and FYI....performance this month sucks...gee I wonder why. How about you show some decency to the people that have spent years here growing your company and at least get us a response back in time? This has been the most frustrating experience during my time at Att through all the bs. How are we suppose to have a back up plan when we don't even have a timeframe of when we are going to know if we are leaving?! Show some respect for people's lives

I volunteered for the severance. I felt it put me in the driver seat and I've already been offered multiple higher level positions with the very dealers and accounts I supported.

If you do a good job, ATT may not notice but the account ts you represent for do. There is plenty of options for everyone to move forward. ATT seemed safe that's why you stay, not so safe anymore right? Network and grow. Don't believe the latter and lattice bullshit requirement to move up. Kiss my assthat I have to take several laterals to earn a promotion. I'm moving on!!!

Each market is going to be different depending on budgets and who volunteered. The old timer ARSMS who took the surplus are in 1 ARSM podunk markets that nobody wants to live in, especially since it's so far away. It just depends on what the VPGM's vision is I guess. All I've heard about is the level 2 ARSMS getting notified today, nothing on the AE NDAE side as of yet but I have a sneaking suspicion these will start tomorrow since there are so many. Everyone needs to be notified either way.

AT&T NJ PA Surplus Employees due to DTV deal - AT&T Entertainment Group re-org. AT&T delivers a sneak attack on Dealer and NR support employees: Level 1 Mgrs: RAEs, NDAEs, Level 2 and Level 3 mgrs.) Regional VP, Directors, Managers - made no mention, no comments of a re-organization, no advance reference to any expected changes due to AT&T's purchase or the promises made to DTV. April 22 a short, sharp, to the point blurt out of Layoffs and see Serverance website. Now there is total silence on the layoff subject. Heard daily is Business as usual, BAU, BAU with no answer, no comments, no statements, only silence as if there is no Elephant in the room. The Area VP comments a May 13 re-org completion date. Than an email is sent out days prior to the 13th of: postpone of re-org May13th, also includes a Layoff Survey which is to distract, disarm, and bully all employees to get back to BAU - continue covering the store, until DTV replacements are ready, do the weekly visits, responding to daily calls for help from the stores, all in support of the managers performance monies from Sales Performance. AT&T uses and supports underhanded practices to get what AT&T wants. AT&T brokered this double deal, AT&T is willing to use intimidation, AT&T is willing to eliminate AT&T Employees under a "re-org," because DTV was promised at the purchase, to have lower cost DTV employees replace AT&T employees to reduce cost. AT&T Management has no conscience, no backbone in the outright selling out of AT&T Employees, while not saying a word.

I am literally sick over this. I am a single person who is a homeowner, student and just trying to live a normal life in society and this surplus being held over my head every day is making me feel like at any moment, it will all come crashing down. I have picked up the pieces before when something like this has happened but I can't do it again. Please stop holding us hostage and let us 1b managers know if I will be kept as an AE for local dealer stores I built from the ground up or if I'll be living in a dumpster by Christmas

Surprised the arsms were cut by that much. Our market stated RAEs would be getting blown the F up. Didn't really state much on the arsms.

Is this speculative or factual?

Heads up y'all!!! The Level 2/ ARSM surplus notifications have started going out today in my region in the Northeast region mobility/entertainment group or whatever they call it now. This was done via a call with the VPGM and HR rep. Very few are remaining in their position. Id say 20%. And we were understaffed already before this! The rest were given the option to move to a less than desirable city out of state or take the surplus. I imagine the level 1b managers, NDAE, AE, will be notified sooner than the 23rd. Let's hope it's not the 80% cut that the level 2 managers experienced since the account executives are the ones who do the real work anyways. Looks like AT&T is taking up the Walmart business model of employ bare minimum, keep morale low! Excuse me while I plan for my inevitable surplus despite my high performance since selection criteria is unpredictable.

We're all in the same boat OP. Hang in there until the 23rd. They delayed why they did for a reason, one we'll never likely know or accept anyhow. The end is near for a lot of people. Some good people will be lost, some dead weight will get cut off. The majority of us will be left to work through the aftermath. If I make the cut I know I'll be trying to better myself so I can test the market with more confidence. There is life and opportunity outside of T but the grass isn't always going to be greener and there has been a reason why a lot of people have stayed as long as they have. The good news is if you've been around a while the severance package is good compared to a lot of places. I have friends who have been laid off and received 2 weeks salary.

I do wish that our company had handled this better but these decisions (time frame, total cuts, and everything else) are being made by people most of us have never heard of or would ever run across in our duties. Your AD's, Directors and AVP's aren't driving this and have as much say over how this was conducted as they do about what health benefits and salary ranges apply to each title....none. This of course is the down side of being a mega-corp who answers to shareholders.

From past experience the organization chart is all filled out. When I was surplussed the chart was distributed just daus after I was notified of my 60 days remaining on payroll. Also if you have contractors in your group, they will keep the contractors and let FTE'S go. Only the directors and all contractors were kept when I was surplussed.

I've been looking since the obvious attempts to get people to leave that are legacy DTV. I would appreciate being surplussed because the change they made to my job effectively pays me less to do more. They are hoping we will quit, but I cannot effectively do what I'm being asked because it is a financial hardship. My job title is still a DTV job title, and my pay has not changed. I've just been moved to exempt. I'm considered 1B. Hopefully, I'll get shuttled so I can plan on some unemployment along with the 60 days.

Do your part, like many others I left the company, no waiting , no 60 days, looking for a Better Jobs, little sad about leaving But with A dying career in this company, do yoursef a favor and look for opportunities elsewhere, you find the most opportunities when there are the least layoffs,
