Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why are their any foreman left?

Seriously- I am a FIOS tech- I come in in the morning log into my tablet and get my work then I type my VZ id into a key machine which assigns me a truck which I get into after loading supplies which are given to me out of a vending machine, leave the garage which is all time stamped and GPS'd call ahead to my customer which is all recorded do my work for the day then do my time sheet and sign off at the end of the day. My paycheck is direct deposited. The tech is not the dying breed here- they'll need us to turn the screws for a while- why are their any foreman left? They've gone the way of the horseshoe maker. Think of it ? Who is their 39000 of? Who are they hiring off the street? Who are they desperate to replace? Not the foreman and 2nd levels that's for sure.

The worst thing the union ever did was making everyone the same title- Field Tech. Being hired by NYNEX in 1994, I was proud to be a cable splices-top craft. No disrespect to repairman and linemen but not every tech is created equal.

flip side - you don't need a $35 dollar and hour fios tech with beneifts either - fios is plug and plug - patch panel SC hookem up - if you can log into a computer - you can shoot a trouble - GED is all thats needed - it's actually an easier install Fios then Comcast - you tube the install... have some as you have been served - next

It has already been determined that Cushman and Wakefield is going to start managIng garages in there new contract.

The present one they have is only for Realestate.

Next contract completely eliminates realestate 1st and 2nd liners and adds in managing garages. That is a fact that's in the new 5 year CW deal.

There is a reason why we need to advocate teachings in STEM fields. Why? Because clearly if the work is becoming outsourced it will also become AUTOMATED. So yes, I'm sure one day this work can become automated. Bank on it. New jobs to be had to create and support those systems, by the way.

Because only one out of 20 of you can do what you're claiming you can do. The other 19 need someone to hold their hands at one level or another.

Without the foreman the economy would fail, the nail salons and hairdressers would go out of business. And what about the gym that my boss goes to every day for 2hrs, rif-ing these people has implications, we as union members shoud wildcat strike for them.

I think we should get rid of both foremen and tech and just permanately replace them with contractors (with background checks). While the union is experienced they aren't worth the work - but don't work too hard mindset and false entitlement issues.

After the company gives in to the outsourcing issues they will outsource managers. $1.75 for some call center worker in Manila to act as a manager. They can access GPS records call a heads worklogs etc
