Now that the Dept. of Labor is forcing the union to get serious about bargaining and stop wasting time, the union will accept that they've lost and take either the LBFO or the mediation offer before the deadline of 5/20. My money's on the LBFO.

OP. The 5/20 deadline/LBFO means nothing now. Didn't mean much prior to yesterday either. It's over, VZ lost. They are just trying to find a way out of the mess Lowell created and save some face.
I am betting on the union.....Verizon is a profitable company who wants to save money on employee benefits and make more money at the expense of its employees and their families..local and state economies. This contract gives union less spending power in our communities and gives Verizon more spending power and opportunity to reduce the number of US employees.
Finally the Rodent comes out to speak. Game Over fellas.

I'm betting the LBFO as well. The union has already shown they are afraid of mediation. Last time having an impartial third party look at their demands didn't work out very well for them.
