Big Companies do not Care About Little People, AT&T Included

How many times during the years we've been w/SBC ATT have we seen downsizing and offices closing and folks showing up even in our building out of the blue because their jobs ended.

I feel it's nothing new. It seems to me that it MAY not affect what we do because of what we do.

I feel like we're needed most to keep folks from leaving.

Then again we're talking about a big company and if you know anything about big companies you know they don't care about little people.

It would be a surprise

I was with the legacy AT&T before we got bought out by SBC. I can empathize since we went thru the same thing then and has gotten worse since.

So much for "opportunities" with AT&T. I am at one of the 3 O&O DTV call centers that are not sales-based in nature, and all rumors thus far are we will close. There is already a 50% reduction in CSRs and 15% reduction in level 1 managers. I think we have two trainers left that they keep sending out for weeks on end to train at vendor sites for ISM. They also moved them to salary without raising their pay, which effectively pays them less since they can't get over time anymore with all the travel. Once expects to get fired for refusing to travel since it is nowhere in the original DTV job description. DTV had an amazingly loyal customer base and NPS. That is now GONE. It's very upsetting because DTV was a fantastic company to work for who really did care about their workers (which is why they never unionized!). Shame on AT&T and the half-truths we have been told. Shame on our own upper level management for not communicating ANYTHING for MONTHS other than to assure us all that nothing would be happening. I would say that 50% of what used to be my call center population would disagree with that. This is truly very sad. I feel worse for our O&O in smaller communities where the call center was basically THE employment. Scary times driven by the bottom line. I'd like to see some of the top level start letting go of some of the MILLIONS and TENS of MILLIONS they are raking in while the little folks fall.

This is so sad and so true. I worked for 3 Fortune 500 companies in my 22 year long career, and they are all the same - it's all about profits and NOBODY cares about workers. They will tell you about Great Place to Work, Work Life Balance, etc. But nothing matters, you are just a number.
