Looks like Lowell dialed up his freinds in Washington, D.C. To get this strike over with while saving face
So much for "last best final offer".
Oh if only that was true. There would be no need for this meeting then.
Think about it

@1iqm It's just NY that will start giving unemployment benefits. The rest of the union is SOL
Well if the new contract isn't the same or better than what we have I'll be more than happy to suck up some of that unemployment I've been paying into for 28 years.
Several states have to pay unemployment real soon
8 million a week in NY.
With tax shenanigans practiced by Verizon this ain't gonna fly
You better believe Obama got calls and NY gov wants this settled before he has to pay out
" If the union refuses this time around, they are done."
We've heard that one before. And the lockout. And that LBFO is exactly what it says. And May 20th when all the hell breaks loose...
Any real news?
Let's hope the yard signs are generic and don't have dates on them so they can be used on Day 1 of the next strike. I hope an agreement is not reached before "Family Day" on the picket lines because I was really looking forward to them.
International scandal? Who did say that? Your union master. At the beginning of the strike, you guys wish Bernie Sanders could help you, then the shareholder meeting, so called uncover Verizon's massive Philippines callcenter, now Labor Secretary. All I see are your little shattered hopes and dreams.
How funny the corporate minions still.think they make a difference. Lowell realized how useless you EWA workers actually are and now finds himself in a international pr scandal in the Philippines! time to go back to fluffing you boss's boss for your bonus. They lost this battle and they will loose the yahoo battle too. These are the most bone headed executives since Enron. Keep drinking that coolaid morons even the most educated of the executives have already taken their package and jumped ship. Do your research EWA's wireline will be sold off but after this political and pr nightmare VZW will never be the same!!!!!!! Good luck
So this is basically mediation
looks to me like the S-headed union trolls are out in force today.
This is a way for the union to save face, and there jobs.
Philippines sweatshop is making union's yard sign right now.
So much for all the money that Lowell spent on those "labor consultants" and just like everything else he's done its blown up in his face. The last offer can be used at the bottom of a bird cage now.
What about our yard signs?
Lowell jist got bitch slapped by Obama. Labor Secretary never does anything without White House Chief of Staff direction.
They took our jerbs.................
The workflow inside is so much easier without the union attitude. Please lock them out.
Philo
Union is breathing a sigh of relief as this gives some cover to allow them accept VZ's offer which is what they'll end up doing. They never should have walked as the union has no leverage in this fight and the company has been prepared to let the strike continue for months.
I like how everything that happens it us alwats VZ that is caving....nice bubble you guys live in.
What bargaining then??? If the LBO is the LAST offer, what is there to bargain??
Lowell could have said no.. I mean you are saying that this was done to get Verizon back to the bargaining table/??? But verizon already made their last offer
And this is just not from the labor dept, its from the Secy Of Labor himself.
And to remind you:
"The parties had an open, frank and constructive dialogue about finding a comprehensive way forward to resolve disputed issues and get people back to work. The parties agreed to return to the bargaining table on Tuesday to continue their discussion."
So it doesnt sound like what all the company shills have been saying about verizon is done with the unions, cross the line and save your job, vz to replace everyone with contractors forever.
Looks like verizon will have to move on some issues
Why not Monday if all parties want this to end?
If I'm the Union......NOW I WANT!
Because there have been zero movement since May 7th in District 1 and no true bargaining update from Dstric 2-13 for a week, DOL involved to bring everyone back to the bargaining table. Both Union and company just agree to go back to the table on Tuesday. Possibly, asking for mediation is next move.
If anything, the Department of Labor is in place to help workers, not employers. This is not under the same entity as the NLRB, which is under the Department of Commerce. It was the NLRB that offered mediation help. So it seems that this was done to get Verizon back to the bargaining table, not the Union ( which from my understanding has been available anytime Verizon wanted to meet). Instead, Marc Reed issued the last best final ultimatum, so I would say it was Verizon who stopped negotiating.
DOL will not weigh in on oversea jobs or the fact that VZ wants to send you where the work is. Union will gulp and sign the offer s is. DOL pulled in CWA - not VZ. DOL will not discuss wages vs company profits. CWA VZ has the best contract of any Union out there. Your a fool if you think this was a good move for the Union.
I thought Lowell has no say in the bargaining process
so why the meeting? if the last best offer is what verizon is sticking too then all the meetings in the world would not make a difference
EWAs are not up to par, no matter what they say
installs are down 85%., repairs are repeating like crazy, CLECs are filing complaints, the list goes on and on.
Scab contractors are the lowest of the low, and even with the few that sign on they are a PR nightmare and are probably here to steal $$$$
Dept. of Labor involved to force the union to get serious about bargaining instead of doing nothing as they've done for the past few weeks. Should wrap up soon now.
3 words...LAST BEST OFFER.
Another lie from VZ management
Verzon cave? Not hardly. DOL has virtually zero say in this process and all the DOL has done is give the Union a way to save a bit of face by hosting this meet. The two parties can meet at the table Tuesday but I doubt much will change. VZ will still close most call centers or move them to Cary, NC and OSP members will still have to move or travel.
Verizon will likely have achieved what they wanted.
Actually, Lowell was requested to be there and so were the 2 Union Presidents. Everyone is afraid this will go on for months and they are offering everyone a way out of this mess. It does not speak well for the union refusing mediation and this is expected to be the path everyone must agree to take. If the union refuses this time around, they are done.
