Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Miserable EWA manager here.

I'm an accounting manager with an EWA doing Fios install halfway across the country. I am absolutely miserable. I have no handyman skills so I suck at the job. Most in my garage are doing well with the work but I know I'm the worst here. Every day I'm stressed about it and I have dreams about the job every night.

Also my wife back home is having a tough time taking care of our toddler. She keeps telling me to quit and come home. We are fortunate that she makes good money and can live off just her salary. So I could quit and be fine. But the thought of looking for a new job is also very stressful.

I don't know what to do. I really just hope this is all over soon.

All I hear is Poor Union families suffering during this strike. What about the EWA families????We miss our loved ones. Why are their families not as important? End this! Let our families get back to normal!

EWA wife here. I haven't seen my husband since the strike began, but we are hanging in there and you should too. You're not alone in this!

Stay strong! Who are we? Non-union! What is our reason? One day longer, one paycheck larger!

As for the strikers, stop suggesting EWA wives and families will fold or should be harmed. If I wanted a blue collar thug, I would have married one. And I most certainly wouldn't be agreeable to losing our family's healthcare and our hard-earned savings for some misguided loyalty to a union. Get to work or your wife may kick YOU out of the house! There is absolutely no dignity in walking in circles chanting and/or following EWAs on the job to scream obscenities while taunting them in the disgusting hope they make a mistake or get hurt.

@Hp1gDT4-mfc, a lot of female are assigned to easy jobs. No respect to the strong girls doing I/M though. However, ratio in the field is not 50/50 or even close. Since you can post during the day time, I assume you are enjoying EWA in the office drinking coffee and food delivered.

I get a kick out of these posts. About 50% of the EWA workers are women, but we only read these fake posts of male EWAs worried about their wives at home. This meshes perfectly with Union posting taunts that the wives at home will leave them.

Ah... union workers - stuck in the 1950s. They probably think women should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen too.

Me too. It sucks here. My whole life now is work work work. Too tired to even hang out after work at the hotel bar. Wish this would end.

No worries Cushman and Wakefield is ramping up right now. No worries about that EWA time. It's soon going to be over and you won't have to worry about it. Plenty of time at home after the riff.

We're not all mgmt out here, hourly employee myself, and still forced to do this ewa $hit. My fam at home misses me, but they are surviving. I may not know all the aspects of this outside tech work, but I'm former Army, and no stranger to working with my hands, and every day I'm learning more. Some days are better than others. Keep your head up OP, this is only temporary.

OP,

talk to your garage boss, force coordiantor, your manager, HR about your situation. There are folks going back to MOJ due to various and various and some time ridiculous reasons. There are enough folks on standby or who have avoided and they can replace you if your managers and force coordinator work it out. NCC is still busy with training.

You can always count on the union members to prove they are the worst part of humanity with their posts. I'm assuming the overdue bills, and the disgusting looks they are getting from their wives is starting to wear thin. I'm sure knowing that their families are suffering and are embarrassed because their dads are lazy bums tends to get them a little cranky.

I smell their insecurity through my monitor. Their poor choices have their families suffering. Their wives are dry as a desert with disgust and disappointment. They're impotent and I know it. Their wives drip at the thought of us scabs out here working hard and bring home fat asspaychecks while they stand around with signs harassing real men and women. They're lucky we don't rent out their wives for a couple bucks.

I feel for you. I'm an EWA wife too and the only times I've seen my husband in the last month has been by driving 4 hours each way to spend 7pm to 5.30am with him in a hotel. And it was worth every minute of the drive.

EWA guys, ignore the CWA guys.....we love and support our husbands! It will work out!

The union members must have problems with their wives messing around behind their back. They've projected their fears on EWA members since day 1 of the strike.

Hey, its like being drafted and called to duty ! I feel so patriotic serving my $18 million dollar king and declaring war on people whose jobs might be sent overseas or have to be away from their families for 2 months at a time.

Stop being so hard on yourself. When you are struggling with your assignment go look outside at the picketers.. This is a good way to stay grounded and regroup. At your worst, you are still probably better at their job than they are. Every day you will improve. Do the best you can and take it a day at a time. Hang in there

I feel for you guys, being sent far away from your family with no end in sight has to be hard, you miss your kids, you wonder if you wife is banging some other dude if not now then most likely soon, and you are stuck working like a monkey with all of this going through you head, it probably affects your concentration and ability to work safely in a unformilar area.

If your wife wants you to quit, then quit. You'll be looking for another job but you'll have control of your life again.

You are not alone. Its hard to walk away from a routine, leave your family, then get an EWA assignment out of town, for which you have no skills or inclination to perform. The use of management employees to step in for the associates helps remind me that Verizon is still a phone company. Try to pace yourself and remind yourself that it will end in the near future. With a few days rest, you will be back to your routine and will be able to file this experience. Good Luck to all EWAs !!

Same situation here. Wife is now on antidepressants. It is one thing if you sign up for this sort of work and travel away from your family. It is something all together different if you haven't. To the person that was rude in the comments: screw off.

I hope this will be over soon as well. In the mean time I take it day by day and report all threats and shop manager bs to my boss back home and it is taken care of. I can only do what I can do in a job that I am barely trained to do and isn't my job. Meanwhile I look forward to continued huge paychecks and management bonus next spring.

Here's what you do..... you hang in there!

Apply yourself as best as you can to your temporary position and understand that it is only temporary. Calmly proceed with trying to learn what you can from others that have more experience, and don't pressure yourself to necessarily perform at their level just yet. You will find that once you take the pressure off yourself, you will absorb things more easily, and the whole process will become easier as a result.

And the number one thing....remember it's only temporary. When it's over, and I honestly think it will be over soon, you will quickly adjust back to your normal life and this will all be a fading memory. You will look back and say "that really wasn't all that bad".

I hope the same holds true for those in the union as well.
