Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Phillipenes story is an obvious Look Away strategy.

Never mind that we aren't doing anything at the table. Look over here! We "found" a call center in the Philippines!

So, if you had your way, you would put those Philipinos out of work?

One thing you are forgetting, these foreign call center workers work in sweatshop type working conditions and get paid drastically less than American workers. This is the new corporate model, utilize underpaid foreign sweatshop workers to displace higher paid American workers to pad the greedy corporate bottom line. Hope you like living in a 3rd world country with no middle class like the U.S. is about to become, it's coming soon!

Almost every big American company has overseas call centers and "The Philippines has become the call-center capital of the world." (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-philippines-economy-20150202-story.html) Why did CWA act like Christopher Columbus Discovers America?

I had posted this already, but everyone already knew there are 2 call centers in the Philipines, 3 in India, 1 in Mexico, and 1 in Canada. This is old news and not something that developed overnight, they have been there for more than 3 years. The CWA only discovered what most of its members and the public already new, talk about the last being invited to the party. Did this warrant the cost of 4 plane tickets, hotel stays, food, and transportation costs, I think not. The money should have been spent on covering benefits for their membership. Say what you want to say about Lowell being greedy, but at least he has a clue and a plan. Don't see that from the CWA, other then trying to boost its membership by getting wireless members as they sell the landline people down the drain.

The call centers are old news and probably every PUCO, SSC and Wall Street are aware of it. I am hard pressed to believe the Union served itself very well at all by sending members to PH. Conversely, Verizon will be able to make this a public relations plus for them ( VZ ) as they can show the Union has known about this all along.
