Lol.....don't believe these a--holes. May 20 has nothing binding to it in any state. You realize these cunts are f---ing with you right ?
No chance they will hire any full time replacements. That is not the strategy they have been implementing for the last few years across the company. In overseas call centers, management pm positions, replacement for union retirees (except for minimum quota), etc they are all contractors with higher base and no benefits. No way they will hire full time for any wireline positions. It's much harder to sell off any piece of it w/union or full time employee replacement.

I also heard this exact same thing today. It will vary state to state as to what falls out from "job abandonment", but legally this can open the door for the hiring of permanent replacements. But, I don't think Verizon will take that approach (but I could definitely be wrong if they really want to play hardball this soon). In my opinion they are more likely to simply keep hiring temporary contractors with shorter term contracts (maybe three months at a time). From everything I have seen, funding this initiative does not seem to be a problem.

The outcome of this struggle will be felt widely. If Verizon prevails, it will be a major blow to blue-collar unions that have already been accepting concessions without a fight--including eliminating traditional pensions and cutting wages in half for new hires. But if the unions at Verizon hold the line, it will be a rallying point for workers, union and nonunion, who are looking for a way to resist the downward pressure on their living standards since the recession began nearly four years ago.
IF VERIZON is still out to crush the CWA and IBEW, why did the unions send their members back to work just as a promising solidarity campaign was taking off?
They won't get off with a deal like Fairpoint purely on the profit they make. I know Verizon would love that but even with Shammo cooking the books wireline still turns 30% of their profit so the Fairpoint contract is an impossibility.
This is where we are at. Offer is not changing. If it is not ratified by 5/20 it is gone and the next offer will be less. Just like Fairpoint! Good point about Verizon profits. It is about the wireline it is shrinking.
Fairpoint filed for bankruptcy protection. Verizon hasn't and won't.

Looks like a several month strike is inevitable at this point. Company has guaranteed the contractors a minimum of 3 months pay regardless of whether the strike ends earlier. Company is prepping for a very long strike it seems.
What VZ makes is not important.

Fairpoint was operating at a net loss, Verizon is making hundreds of trillions a year. Some say more revenue than the entire GDP of Europe. Union deserves is fair share! One day longer one day stronger. Union can go 132 days no problem.
oh god, make a few tweaks to the current deal so both side say they got something and lets get back to work.
