Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Copper is dead - fading fast. There is a need for high dollar techs for ETTC/FIber/COT Switch side - maybe 15% of the workforce. They do need you, but really not the rest at that price point. You are just a number. This technology is pretty simple once trained and their is a ton of vendor support from cisco/conoga/lucent to figure out the rest. The union decided to walk with an existing contract and protection. Gambling with your lively hood. You played into the companies hand and you should have kept bluffing. The company was so ready for this to finally happen. 6 months this will be all water under the bridge - you will either sign the offer or they will replace you. No one is irreplaceable and your a sucker if you think so. There are plenty smart hardworking folks that will do just fine in your job. You were once one of those folks dying to have that chance as well. Wake up and take your blinders off.

If we are not important then why are they trying to replace us? They just told you they didn't need us and you believe it. Too many troubles for them to keep up with, too many install for them to do and no new jobs are being done. Wireline is 30% of their revenue. Hardly a SMALL piece. If they actually put expenses in the right sector of the buisiness and paid for the use of the plant it would show more profit as well. Plus, how long have you been doing 7x12 shifts now? 31 days or some sh-- and you still can't fix a REAL problem. Trouble shoot anything other than a broken x-connect or a loop trouble? Voice link doesn't count as a fix. We will have to replace all of those when we come back. Stop trying to convince us that we are not needed and just keep trying to do my job.

We could of hung on to what we had and still be collecting a paycheck. Bad move on the unions part - they are the ones to blame. Negotiate while we are working is a unions wet dream - it's a 10. Work to rule - no OT - safety - safety. - safety. Check tire pressure every day - ladders - lift - bad goggles - and still run informational picket lines as VZW. Now - we have zero leverage and they are replacing us.

A lot of sour grapes from a few Verizon supporters. Can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. It is what it is.

Can't believe the denial involved in this site. We talk to foreman, second level management and yes Vz is being hit hard. Keep patting yourselves in the back. We really believe you. Lol. And btw, Verizon has the commitments to the customers, not the union. If Vz would just play fair non of this would have happened. Crippled is an overly optimistic point of view. More like a slight contusion that is healing nicely causing a minor limp

and even if they have in fact crippled some businesses, not sure the newspaper's readers will find that admirable; continuing to negotiate for demands is one thing; walking off the job to get your demands, and crippling innocent business in the process by doing so, is another thing.

Hardly crippled indeed! The issue here is wireline and not the rest of the company. No idea who the author is or what her credentials are but VZ is certainly not crippled by this. If it were a problem to VZ or became a problem to VZ they could very easily put tape around the C.O. fiber short / long haul equipment and spin off or sell the rest of wireline.

Certainly no bias in that Pravda article. Crippled? Hardly.
