Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Agree to the mediation this coming week!!

When and if they meet this week, let’s agree to the mediation before this gets any worse. I’m not looking to throw away a 20 year career and start over.

see you already say this week...or early next. its all the same....tooooooo many people lie on here. im a union guy all the way, but i think the CWA miscalculated on about ever step this round. am i say i can do better? no! hard to when the company doesn't value the employee, or even this side of the biz. wished they would have sold us off when FL, CA, and TX went.

The Department of Labor? What agency in the DOL has jurisdiction over a strike? I doubt the DOL have any legal teeth to force VZ or the Union to accept each others terms. The NLRB acts within its own laws and regs and as long as VZ has followed the law, and I imagine they have, I don't really understand what the NLRB will be able to do. Can't force VZ to keep call centers as that decision falls under managerial and all the Union can bargain on that are the effects (RIF,etc) of closing or moving a center.

Hope you’re right. The longer this goes, the more bleak it looks.

While fighting for what's right, I have to agree with you guys. I can't imagine throwing away a long career and not to mention no income for my family to survive. While it's a difficult decision, in the long run, returning to work is a viable option. Even if I've saved enough for a "rainy" day, and had the opportunity to go back to work, I would choose to go back because of my family and their future, I would deal with the consequence later after it's all said and done. Good Luck to all!

mediation was rejected by union. I am sure if union can accept now without company's agreement. You really should've accepted before without bleeding both sides.

My guess is that after the 20th of May, the company will simply say everyone back to work on Monday or you are being replaced by temp workers. If that happens, folks need to really consider ending their union membership and coming back to work. Giving up ones career and harming their family is not worth this battle between the union and VZ.

Discretion is the better part of valor and sometimes it is better to be around to 'fight' another day.
