Opening up a temporary MCO in Cary, NC

All the Cary, NC EWAs that are working in MCOs are going home and working from that facility (still supporting EWA MCO work) . I'm not sure how many there are in other regions, but Maryland has about 40.

"Compared to the OSP and IP parts of the company...testing is an easy job."

All that you've said hasn't answered any of my questions. Which were posed from an outside tech who knows how valuable of an asset it a tester who knows something outside of T-1 realm is.

Obviously, you're not such a tester.

@1jgs ... don't take it personal but frankly, it is an easy job. Most of the testing is automated and gives you the results. Just like MLT will tell you the distance of the cable and where the fault is. The skill is in the ability of the tech to think through and isolate the odd-ball problems that come up between carrier or operating companies. Sometimes Transport has to get involved to suss out the issues in their cross-connects. Regardless, it is not a physically demanding job and most of it is automated. Compared to the OSP and IP parts of the company...testing is an easy job.

The company was moving jobs to Cary after the last strike. The word then was these were salaried employees, non-union and Cary would end up being a hub for most ( maybe all ) call centers/teir 1 and teir 2 support centers. Being salaried and non-union were the two key words.

I find it difficult to believe the company will move these functions out of Cary, NC when the strike ends.

From what we are hearing on the "inside" a LOT of call center jobs are going to be moving permanently to Cary. Have been advised by the head honchos that things are changing rapidly and this company is NOT going to look the same. Just an FYI..........

Temp Centers are being set up all over the US to take advantage of technology and allow EWA work to be done close to home. Keeps workers happy since it's going to take time for replacements to get fully trained for the jobs that were abandoned. I wouldn't read too much into one particular location. I hope strike ends soon so we get everyone back to normal jobs. No one wants to see 40K people out of work. The longer it goes, the worse it will be on individual families.

The MCO in Cary will be permanent, until the tax breaks the state of NC gave VZ expire and they ditch the facility for the next place that will give them a deal. Don't kid yourselves.

"CSR, Testers, MA's... that's all easy stuff."

Any of you geniuses knows how to test an analog line, FDDA for an example? Care to enlighten the rest of us how it's done? What equipment the SST in the field needs in order to work with you?

Waiting for an answer but not holding my breath.

And NC is a RTW state.

Looks like the company is thinking long term.

I was MCO last time and you're right it's a cake job. I wondered last time why a communications technology company had to put us up in a hotel in NYC to do a job that we could do anywhere we had the tools on our laptop. Same for call center jobs...should be pretty easy to route those calls wherever instead of paying for travel. It's unfortunate that it takes a strike before we move in that direction but hopefully they see how much they could save doing it that way during normal day to day business. It solves the union issue, solves the issue of having to pay the type of salary needed to live in NY/NE, and I can tell you personally that when you work from home you're happier and more efficient.

Maint Control Office... this is where special circuits are reported for troubles and testing and dispatches originate from. It's a cake job. The only 'blood and sweat' is coming from the field forces. Those are respectable hard jobs. CSR, Testers, MA's... that's all easy stuff.
