Slam the Union!!!

That seems to be the majority sentiment on this site. I could agree with that if only we started with the influence of most powerful union first. We’ll get to that later.

We all know the two unions represented in the posts here, most of us are aware of the major us unions we love to hate: auto workers union, teachers union. Then there are unions that most may not be aware of:

AFSCME: state & below government employees,

Pilots union: responsible for getting our EWA’s to their site,

Service Employees International: responsible for cleaning our EWA’s hotels,

Police union: responsible for keeping our EWA’s and Picketeers safe.

And when all this back-and-forth gets to be too much and we need an escape there are more unions:

Teamsters: responsible for bring the snacks and liquor to the stores,

Associated Actors and Artists: responsible for the escapist shows/movies we watch,

Oh, and the sports unions:

Major League Baseball Players Association, Major League Soccer Players Union, National Hockey League Players Association, National Basketball Players Association, National Football League Players Association, because, Hey! We have to have a reason to consume all those snacks and liquor, right?!!!

But what is the most powerful union, you know it or at least it’s nickname POTUS , COTUS & SCOTUS. Yes! The Government of the United States is a union for corporations and the wealthy. Don’t believe me, let’s examine it:

  • Disparate individuals (companies & the wealthy) are force to join the organization (via a thing called laws, business registrations and citizenship),

  • forced to pay dues (via hiring lobbyists and financing campaigns),

  • to obtain protection and special treatment (via legislation like NAFTA, limited liability against prosecution for wrongdoing, Taft-Hartley),

  • there’s even emergency money for when things go really bad, but it’s not called a strike fund, it’s called a Bailout (remember too big to fail).

  • Oh and finally there is special treatment as well. What regular, ordinary citizen has been invited to spend the night in the Lincoln Bedroom or can, with one phone call, be put immediately on the President’s or Senator’s schedule? No, instead if a regular ordinary citizen tried to do that they’d be treated like, well… a SCAB.

So let’s get rid of the influence of most powerful union first and America might actually be great again!

dkh - if you read it, it says "the influence of most powerful union", or better said, the influencing OF the most powerful union. I don't think the poster actually supports overthrowing the government. But hey what do I know. Perhaps Webster does: Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterized by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production, as well as the political ideologies, theories, and movements that aim at their establishment. Social ownership may refer to public ownership, cooperative ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these.

Hmmmmm, public ownership, democratic control... sounds familiar!!!

Good think I live in a Republic???!!!

So, you will criticize the union only after the whole US government system is over thrown. Sounds about right for a purely socialist organization.

You're wrong on all counts. The pilots union transports nobody. The pilots do.

This harkens back to when President Obama says "The government we are all a part of". The government exists for us, not the other way around. Union heads have forgotten that the union is their tool, but this strike goes to show that workers are the tool of the union.
