What do the typical technicians make a year in NY - NJ - PA - MA - VA WVA? Do the really make 100k a year with OT - plus benefits? How much do they pay for healthcare? Do they get vacation day/pay. Is OT really double time.

To the idiot out east. Property value is the big difference between TX and out East. I'm sorry, but the rest of the cost of living factors don't vary that much. Ohhhhh...I pay $3 for gas, you pay $3.15. I have lived in NYC, yes, there is a difference here, but let's not generalize the whole f-ing east coast with nyc. Moran. My wife works for a timber distrubutor, IT dpt, she has 7 PMs reporting to her, average pay is about 125k, stock and bonus about 10k/yr for average performance.
Go check out engineering out of school pay, google fb and apple bring them in at 100k straight out of school.
I guarantee you that no physics phd makes less than 200k in a private sector, check out glassdoor and look for scientist positions at northrop, boeing, spacex etc
Sounds like we are all I'm agreement that the average salary is in the $80K range, there are plenty that crack six figures, and the medical, time off, and 401k / pension are pretty damn good for all.

To the idiot from Texas, I did a quick Cost-of-living analysis between NY's most depress city Buffalo and Dallas Texas. Housing was 23 % cheaper in Dallas. You could buy a city block in Buffalo for about 150k. lol
So, lets reduce your pay by 23 percent and you can live in Buffalo. Sound fair, no?
When compared to NYC housing, Dallas was 83% cheaper. Utilities, health, transportation and groceries are between 10-23 percent cheaper in Dallas. lol

Honestly, top craft earns about 87-89k a year without OT. Most departments have very little overtime. Factor in heath care at a generous 20k (it is in fact lower) and that is the total compensation. Anyone budgeting on OT is an idiot. The company has never explained the inflated 130k number. They only match the first 6% in 401k contributions which you don't have to participate in. I guess if I went to school full time on top of family obligations for my entire 30 career (24k a semester) it might average out to that. Realistically it about 110k. Not sure a school would allow me to attend for 60 semesters. I'm sure they would take the money thou.
20k in taxes in TX? I bet there are more homes around new york paying that than there are in those few isolated places you didn't cite. 20k here is about 1/4 - 1 acre outside the NYC area. The cost for most living in TX isn't even close to those of us here when compare to population size and average income and taxes. The cost of living anywhere is base on averages. It appears that you don't understand that.

I'll admit that I have no idea what $500K buys in TX when it comes to property. It doesn't buy much in even the outer boroughs of NY, let alone Long Island. Which leaves one with the options of NJ - sporting arguably the highest property taxes in the nation - or CT/PA if they can stand the commute...which gets very old very fast after a few years...

Lets put things in the proper perspective. New York metro area including NJ and CT. property taxes anywhere from 10,000.00 to 20,000.00 per year for a postage stamp size piece of property. The average verizon employee's home with mortgage is close to 500,000.00. Cost of living in these areas far exceed those in Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia, Florida...ect. Health insurance, car insurance, life insurance, education, gas, food...ect, all cost SIGNIFICANTLY more here. So the level of pay of a Tech is actually lower than what yours is when the cost of living is factored in for those reasons. But you EWA's already knew all that, didn't you? Dumb asss.

You'd have no pension and no job protection. Chances are - as everyone hired in NY after 2003 had lived to experience - that you'd have a temp spot for a year or two max and then be laid off...not worth it.

Tech in ma make 1550 a week. Get little to no OT anymore. 5 weeks vacation. Pay 25 bucks a week towards healthcare

100k is the average. I know many that have made double that for years. Anything over 40 is paid 1.5X, and anything over 49 is all 2X. All Sunday worked is 2X, holidays 2.5X. Shifted tours 2X. Holiday shifted tour 3.5X. If you know how to play the game and don't mind the hours, it is very easy to bang in the big bucks. Vacation is 5 weeks after 25 years, plus 8 personal days and 11 holidays, which includes ones like Columbus Day, Election Day, etc.). 401K + pension. Health care contributions are minimal (about 20/ week). Paid sick days, tuition pre-pay .... You can see why we hate this company and are out on strike.
