Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

LEARN..... PLEASE....

So I found this site on my FB feed- first time, very interesting and sad. I feel badly regarding the level of misinformation and panic. The one topic I especially noticed was around the term "leadership." I want to help... The meaning is both objective and subjective from your supervisor's perspective and in the end it is a score- a number, a rating. When a need to surplus has been determined, those remaining employees must be skilled and flexible enough to continue post-surplus. This makes sense, right? An "essential" employee(s) are the ones that have the best chance to navigate through a 20+ year career with any company. Believe me, many make it through and so can you. The key is to make yourself an essential part of a team. That is what is meant by the leadership score. There is a method to choose- a selection process. Also- more than half of things posted here is very wrong (I would not count on 50%). Maintain strong communication with your supervisor (and always network with others)- then you won't need this messy website. Good luck to all...

Financials will be available soon, but it looks like AT&T wants to be the market leader in Mexico's telecom market in ten years now. If I recall correctly their last PR campaign to wall-street was 2 years?, Even with the help of regulations, T will not be successful, America Movil, the market leader, is too entrenched to unseat, never underestimate the ability of Randall to screwup, this blunder will cause more layoffs to account for revenue shortfalls, in addition to the DirectV fiasco.

Even with regulatory assistance, T will never be able to mount a serious challenge to America Movil because AMX's competitive advantage is too strong. AMX has 68% of Mexico's mobile market, T must make massive investments if it ever hopes to challenge AMX, and while the company has deep pockets, it will struggle to grow profitably at lower scale. And, now that AMX has lowered prices to protect market share, T will have even more trouble achieving the penetration levels required to be competitive, and with that your job goes somewhere else.

OBEY..

All the OP said was relax, take your meds. do as you are told and all will be fine. Or do you not trust your leadership? Why are you rocking the boat? Why are you not a team player?

Psychopath is a little harsh for randy, Donny,

Wow. The comment by the OP was a perfect synopsis of everything wrong with corporate America as a whole, and the deathstar in particular.

All the OP typed was hollow, pointless, pabulum. It was the inane babble of someone who felt compelled to be heard, but who had nothing of relevance to say. It was exactly the sort of ineffective gibberish one would expect to hear from a low-level lackey desperately trying to maintain morale despite the reality of the situation.

Here's a special message to the OP: becoming an "essential" employee is pointless. These mass murders of jobs are driven by greed and the bottom line. Whatever criteria are used by HR does not end up leaving a more agile and effective workforce. It ends up leaving a smaller payroll and a larger bonus for the top-level murderers. Nobody is safe, except the slime at the top: Randy and Johnny and Ralphie and the rest of the misanthropic psychopaths running this company. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either intentionally misinformed, deluded, a liar, or just plain stupid. Which are you?

Surprised by the level of naivety that the teacher conveys. Not sure if they are even employed by AT the chaos is by design.

I was surplused recently and went to one of the better indirect competitors (who actually make money and with better CEO approval ratings)and I have information that suggest competitors read these boards too as a cautionary tale. Every time this and another competitors layoff board start to heat up, I get employee engagement surveys on my Windows bar.

I remember those questions to Donovan and Stephenson about "what keeps u up at night?"...the 2016 answer should be this and other forums like it. Customers aren't sheeple many are starting to make informed decisions about companies they do business with. Customers finding these types of boards or starting to uncover the shipping jobs offshore, employee treatment etc, would keep me up at night.

If I was Randall reading this specific post by "teacher", I would be mortified.

It proves the point of horrific culture. I believe OP is likely level 3 and above. Att doesn't have a money payroll problem, it has a idea/leadership cultural problem.

But it's this shut up, keep your head down group think that has cost the company a lot of money. How can u constantly iterate and improve with people like OP. And the saddest part is that this is the typical leadership mindset. I had a director omit things in an nps roll up that needed to be rolled up, and it caused the person directed to do the compiling a lot of pain and frustration.

That little nps trick caused irreparable morale issues 7 mos later.

I offer a mirror to the originator of this post: There is no doubt that this post is from a manager who is the typical administrator, short range view, one who imitates, and accepts the status quo, the new AT&T manager focuses on systems and structure , rellies on control, and asks how and when, far from the leader qualities this company really needs, which innovates. It is an original, develops, focuses on people, inspires trust, has an eye to the horizon, challenges the status quo, and lastly the leader is his own person.I do not see any of this qualities on your post!!

I find the "LEARN.... PLEASE..." Comment a bit ridiculous, and informal offensive, I do believe you are not dealing here with stupid people or mentally handicapped individuals, may be you are talking about YOUR TEAM, and their leadership... Now, that would make sense

Cont, I have seen improvements just from the last layoff. To be honest, the last layoff was a hatchet job. I've never seen so many truly top performers and innovators let go. I've seen some controls in place that doesn't just let a director make personal decisions or make surplus decisions and then that director be demoted in 2 months. There seems to be more vetting and sanity checking that previously esp in the former katibeh org was only happening in a bubble.

It ought to tell someone whose able to find a better job with s competitor in 2-3 weeks, that maybe they made the wrong decision.

This is my story when surplused. For those not impacted "yet"; communicate and state they are making selections fairly, just wait because your turn will come (or someone close to you will be impacted).

I was:

-20 year employee with degree and certifications.

-I received "Exceed" MPP's 18 of my 20 years of service. Fully Meets on the other 2 years.

-Received the Key Contributor Award every year.

-Nominated and received Star Performer Award the last 2 years

-Completed ALL of the 2020 training by January 2015. And when I say ALL I did well over 200 courses in a year and half.

WHY I busted my butt to finish ALL that 2020 training is because THEY said if you want to keep your job that is what you need to do.

Does not matter.

If you organization is impacted I will tell you how they will make the selection. They will carve the top 2-3 with seniority making good money (close to qualifying for retirement) and then they carve 2-3 at the bottom of seniority. Why do you think they do that? I will leave that conclusion up to you.

So if that is how you fall within your team or organization, I would be worried. Your direct manager has no involvement. I had a new Manager/Director for less then 6 months. Once your name is selected by HR, doesn't matter. There is nothing that your Manager, DIrector or ED can do.

So please understand why some people that have been surplused communicate and state you are only a number.

Because you are.

@HnAPyNR-dve you kind of nailed it. We all follow the corporate mantra, drink kool-aid, act in a PC manner, do not rock the boat, do not say what you think, do not express opinions, etc.

There is a deep need for people to exchange ideas, thoughts, fears, frustrations, and we cannot do that at work. On this site you see what people actually think and how they really feel. All fluff is removed, an people tell you what's on their mind.

OK, there are some stupid posts, there is a bit of trolling, and that's all OK. Nobody takes things posted on a fully anonymous site as 'the truth'. But each of us is perfectly capable of sifting through noise in order to feel the true pulse of the workforce.

If I was HR, I would actually encourage people to post here so they can get a true feedback on how the employee feels. Yes, there will be a ton of nonsense, but still, every other post gives you some of substance that may be used for figuring out things.

Lol. You are just a number at at&t. AT&T is working towards automating as much as possible and outsourcing. I had a far exceeds performance rating and received numerous key contributor awards. I had a well built network. I was surplussed. It's business and all about cutting costs. There is life after at&t and it is a good one. Better job better pay better benefits. Seriously everyone it's at&t's loss if they let you go.

Basically telling people to not do too much and not do too little and your master will spare you. Live life, do t survive.

That type of advice keeps people's writing checks to Bill collectors until they die. There's more to life than that and money can be made by advancing your skills.

Thanks for your "leadership"... the loosely termed and subjective kind. You've said nothing new or enlightening. Everyone knows that the truth, even in this "messy" website is somewhere in the middle. And if there was "leadership" there wouldn't be much need for people to congregate here. One thread has more than 3k views in two days.
