Verizon not thinking long term.

Verizon is short sighted as to the long term effects this strike will have on profitability, production and morale.

Managers forced into craft assignments are quickly getting disgruntled. They have no desire to put their college degrees to use doing craft work. Retention of managers has become challenging in spite of all the propaganda of what a great place it is to work. Managers have left in droves in the last 12 months. After the strike is over they will be looking to take jobs with companies that don't require union work during a strike. Sales, marketing and IT are valuable to any company. Why wouldn't they entertain other offers?

When the strike does end the company will be left with a disgruntled workforce that will want to stick it so far up Verizons assthat Lowell will feel it in the back of his throat for years.

Wall Street and investors are watching and see that public sentiment and profits are decreasing. Executives are viewed as greedy and anti middle class. Shareholders will remember and see the long term effects that this strike brought to their investments.

This strike doesn't help anyone. It only hurts all Verizon employees and the long term effects on the company will be felt for years to come.

Extremely unlikely in its current form, unless McAdam proves himself to be as resilient as Lady Thatcher. And if he does, my union hat is off to him.

Truth be told, he and BOD need the contract to be signed more than the union does. Frontier - or anyone else - won't buy a company in the middle of labor dispute, or without a valid contract. That much is certain. Check all the previous VZ to Frontier sales as well as AT&T's sale of CT to Frontier if in doubt.

So yes, this will be a very interesting summer in more ways than just one.

OP... you don't get it. Wireline will NOT be a VZ property in a couple years. That's why there's a sunset in that current bullshit contract.

Verizon hedged their bet that many of you would have crossed. But like that video message from the other day. This plan was 2 years in the making.

They were not bee bopping pretending this wasn't loomin like some other group.

I honestly think Lowell is looking towards retirement and knows this is his last union negotiation. So he's going to make sure he's credited with the busting of the union at Verizon, which then sparks the end of the union across the telecom industry. So he's more than determined to see this through. He's ready to retire, so he has nothing to lose. When a man is working on his legacy, he's more determined than ever to control the message. Unfortunately, that means this will go on indefinitely and he won't be satisfied until the union is so weakened that he gets credit as The Man Who Killed The Union.

Read how Murdoch eliminated the printing unions in the 1980s. Fascinating read. This strike draws a lot of parellels to what happened then, in two different industries, albeit similar moves. Think the telecom industry is up for a rude awakening.
