Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The company underestimates the unions resolve.

This union workforce is older and wiser then last contract. Very few millennial cry babies. Hold tight, no pain no gain, we understand that.

"Loving these guys beating their chests claiming the company is winning. Keep dreaming. CWA is here to stay buds."

IMO, no one is winning per se just yet. This is going to be a war of attrition and he who has the most dollars will "win" in the end. The smart money would have to be on the company as, even if they are hemorrhaging cash as the union would have us believe (due to incompetent replacement workers), they still are also continuing to have significant cash inflows (which the union of course does not have), so the odds are stacked.

" Last strike was 80k. "

That was in 1989. The last strike in 2011 involved 45K people.

EWA Despiration? LOL.

EWAers making double their pay > union people with no pay or benefits.

Sorry, but it isn't the EWAers on their way to bankruptcy court. Keep the resolve!!

VZ has definitely planned on the union having resolve. It can't replace union workers if they come back to work right away.

Keep up the resolve! Every day counts!! (or whatever it is you people yell).

Oh VZ is counting on your 'union resolve'. Last strike was 80k. This strike is 40k. VZ is getting exactly what it wants. Next strike...oh...opps. There wont be a union left to strike next time.

Hold tight for what?? It's over - company going full throttle hiring replacements and not budging on its last, best, final offer. As each day passes, Union loses more leverage and members go deeper into debt. Yeah, you got em right where you want em.

Wrong my friend ... It is the union that underestimates the resolve of the company. You guys can beat your chests all the way to bankruptcy and oblivion. The company has out maneuvered you guys EVERY step of the way, including the timing of the strike. The company has you right where they want you, and you are too stupid to see it. How many of you guys can go a long time without income or insurance? If a lot of your answers are yes, then admit it that you were paid very well...

It is a different world! Stop acting like the world owes you something! Time to grow up!

This strike was NOT baited by the company, they are NOT ready. They certainly were ready last August and they were baiting and pushing us to strike then. Since then, they have RIF'ed 1,000s and lost the West backup associates that they could always rely on before. The company is so prepared, that they are hiring scabs with 3 DUI convictions and allowing them to drive. This is a big deal and a huge blow to VZ credibility :

If you ask me, both sides are engaged in an alpha male pissing match and neither side is willing to back off. So ridiculous. Just negotiate a settlement already and end this thing!

That would assume they care. Sure is looking like strike was baited. Longer this goes on, worse it gets for anyone being replaced. Lousy situation but it's reality.
