Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

EWA workers need a union

I am an EWA worker who thought unions were no longer needed in modern times. However, Verizon does not give a crap about any of their workers union or management. Being sent out half trained and not having all the tools to do the job is B.S. and unsafe. Now the garage managers are starting ting feel the pressure and are treating EWA workers like crap. Lucky to even ge to eat lunch and when you do you get harassed the entire time. EWA workers are being treated like slaves and they do not give a crap about you or your family. You are just a number waiting to be abused or RIF'd.

If I do not do the EWA assignment I get fired like several others have. I fully support the union's cause now, because all Verizon cares about is money and they treat everyone like crap. Good luck to the union!

We should never bicker over this. It's that lack of unity that makes us weak and subjects us to this type of thing. I'm an EWA worker and I don't want this work. I can't be happy when the guys I work next to are not working. The union leadership and the company leadership are not hurting in this. They use the rest of us as pawns in their game. Then, like fools, we take sides and criticize the other side. That is foolish. Just like Conserv vs. Liberal, Repub vs. Democrat. No unity while the leaders and the money behind them work for themselves and we follow along and support them. Then, they rape us! Yes. Face it. We need to earn to keep up with all of the things we're told we have to own. The cycle sends all of the money back to the super wealthy.

I don't know about you all but I'll never say a bad thing about those in the union that are on strike. I think they are getting screwed by both the union leadership and the company, but either way, getting screwed. EWA management is also getting screwed. Whatever extra money I may make, will be spent on taxes, recuperating and all of the things I've not been able to do around the house. For family care etc. There are no winners, not at least amound those reading this.

Bin around this for a lot of years and know what to expect from a work stoppage. It's hard for the younger folks. They bounce around easy so many will move on. Bottom line is that no employees are winners in this. EWA assignments are tiring, long and frequently outside of a person's knowledge area. Union employees, like it or not, are stuck without income. EWA workers are missing out on family events, springtime and much needed rest. Union employees whole future is in jeopardy. The company saves millions daily. The customers don't even know this is happening. Once again, middle class workers, union and ewa get screwed. Yes, screwed. EWA assignments are paid, but I would give it up in a minute to have my time back. My time and family is worth more to me than a career, but I need to work to support them. I feel for my Union brothers who have lost this income stream. Remember one thing, regardless of what side of any issue you may be on, it's not about us, it's always about THEM. You're not one of THEM. If you think you are, you better wake up. We're just here to earn and give it all back to THEM.

We should take all the 1st liners into the union. I can confidently say that 75% of the 1st liners I know would be happy to have our protections especially since many of them started out craft.

@HlyKzFu-1viz ,

You won't be laughing when your stock drops. You are desperate, picking on management and the union. Do you think Lowell built this company all by himself? You mock the people who built this company.

@1viz

Your problem is either you are too young to know or you're just unable to see past your own nose. Unions didn't happen in a vacuum, just educate yourself on the history of the union movement in America after the industrial revolution. You will find some striking similarities with the way labor has suffered since 1981 and before the great depression. Verizon is starting to follow the self defeating business model others have, for short term gain. This country was at it's economic peak with a thriving middle class everyone wins. Company's prosper when the average worker can afford the goods and services they produce. Small local business' prosper when the average worker has enough income to support the goods an services they provide. That's how jobs are created! Not by giving tax cuts to businesses that ship jobs overseas. Just think, if you owned a small business what would make you hire more employees? A 5 percent tax cut or long lines of people waiting to buy your good or service? There aren't enough Lowell McAdams in this world to boost this economy by making unreal amounts of money while keeping worker wages stagnant. Trickle down economics does not work for one big reason. It doesn't account for the greed of those at the top of the food chain !!!!!!!

VZ shouldn't have to to care as they they offer you a wage and you agree to work. No one is forcing you to stay - Union/Management. The reason you stay is the $$ and the benefits. This is why no one takes you seriously outside your little circle. Making 100K a year and still complaining. The public knows what you make and 70% of the population has an average income of 50K or less. They will never understand you walking away from that kind of money. Poor Management EWA vs Union employee giving their weekly salary away. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

When you say "VZ doesn't care about anyone" Were you referring to the top 5 Verizon executives?? Or everyone in Verizon?

If ewa's started to go Union, I guarantee you this whole fiasco would end tomorrow and a contract would be signed by both parties immediately lol...Verizon would pull out all stops to keep that from happening

To the original poster , The other EWA's understand and the union most definitely understand your issues and concerns. They have been and are living it . The push back you are getting or will be getting is from day traders and the one or two diehard posters on here who have severe mental problems.

The EWA mgmt is now feeling the burn , this is nothing new . It's sad that Verizon bought " gifts baskekets" for Mother's Day. How about sending mom home?

Without question I'm learning a lot about Unions here in the East coast. They do stand together. I can definitely see that with my own eye's, and what Lowell and crew are fearing. They want to treat them, like they're treating us. I admire there push back.

Going from a tech to management was a great career move, back in the day. You were treated like an adult, and could manage your people with limited interference. But quickly that all changed when the wireless folks took over.

Agreed, management gets treated like a$$ just the same, I have seen too many of the good ones get Rif'd and the ones that actually deserve to be rif'd are still there. If Verizon is trying to ditch wireline like people are saying, the time to get out is right now.

EWA as well and I agree.

Money is nice but I value my time as well. I've already started applying elsewhere.
