Any truth that the union is stopping strike fund payments once unemployment starts. We are not getting a clear answer and get the feeling that they don't want us to know they are planning on doing this.

Go to union facts dot com to see what liquid assets the union really has, it is far less than they have told the media. Less than one tenth of the CWA is on strike.
@nno oh, it's not just the Verizon strike fund? Wow. So there no way they would pay out the full, say $15k per person then. They will cut it off MUCH quicker than that.
What you guys have missed is that the CWA has far more members than those working for Verizon. The quoted strike fund isn't just for VZ Union employees.
The fund is only for CWA members so the 40k figure is wrong for your math.
@egg: ok so you do get both together. Wasn't sure, so glad I asked. So for 35,000 workers, the strike fund can only pay out a max per person of $11k before it is completely depleted. So between $400 per week in unemployment and $400 per week in strike fund, then folks can at least keep food on the table. At least until the fund runs out. Good to know, thanks!

Incorrect. These will run concurrently.

Incorrect. Both will be available in the states where one is eligible for unemployment. Where there's no unemployment, it will only be the strike fund.

Way more than that. Do your own math. There's roughly 35K CWA members involved in this strike at most.

Strike almost over, just got update that Reed is no longer in charge, a few minor details to work out and it'll be over. Proud of our members who stayed strong, anyone who crossed be prepared to be shunned.

As a point of information, the IRS requires us to send you a 1099 Form in any year where a striker receives $600.00 or more in strike benefits. Strike benefits are taxed similar to the way your interest on a savings account is taxed
Bunch of idiots on this board. I ask a question (yes, there was a question mark) about whether strike fund pmt would reduce the amt of unemployment. And I get people being all stupid to me.
Math check: 15000 from strike fund covers 2 months pay. That's 7500 per month X 12= 90000 annual. Company estimated average salary 130k. 130k X .30 ( average payroll tax) = 91000 annual. Seems to me the company accurately represented Union salary.

We were told if broken down each local will only have 10 million per local and it will run out when unemployment kicks in.
They aren't going to completely deplete this account for an un-winnable fight. Probably why they created a GoFund me account to request charity to go with welfare. This is a joke because many Americans truly lost their jobs and need unemployment vs walking away from one that was putting food on the table. Good luck getting public support on that one.
Serious question: so the $440M strike fund is great. But if you break that down, even divided by 30,000 members then each member only has approximately $15,000 to collect before the fund is completely depleted. So really, two months of your normal salary is all you will get total. And that will be spread out over several weeks. Surely people aren't expecting this strike fund to be what sustains them through a strike that most likely will go at least July/August.
